Are there any other free DVD Decrypters like Mac the Ripper? Some movies I own I would like to back up and Mac the Ripper works for most but not all of my DVD's. Any suggestions?

The best thing to do is to donate to Mac the Ripper and get a hold of one of their betas. Their newest one is killer.

Then join their forums on ripdifferent.com and do a search for a move that's not working for you. Chances are that someone else has successfully been able to back up that movie.

I'd suggest you use either MediaFork or Handbrake. MediaFork was based on Handbrake when handbrake's development went a little stale and they introduced some cool new features. Recently the two have joined forces to become one über DVD ripper. I love Handbrake and have used it for years without any problems, and have had similar joy with using MediaFork. I, however, have never used MacTheRipper, so I cannot compare them.

Also, if that doesn't work, there's software out there called DVD Backup which isn't the greatest app, but what it does is it will copy the full uncompressed DVD to your HD, but it will let you remove the CSS, Macrovision, and region codes. This can also sometimes help get through some issues the rippers have.

I havent used any of them so I cant say how good they are, since MacTheRipper usually works when I use it (although I use Mediafork normally because I dont need to reburn DVDs or keep them as video_ts very often.)

I really love Instant Handbrake. It's pretty speedy and it's a load simpler than Handbrake or Mac The Ripper.

Fast DVD Copy is a commercial product but it copies a lot of disks other stuff won't and also compresses them while maintaining DVD formatting

A way to use MacTheRipper to rip DVDs that sometimes would fail otherwise is to rip using Title Only, select the movie title, and hit the "D" button, then hit streams and select the streams you want and then rip it.
When its ripped then get FFmpegX, go to Tools > Mux, select the movie file and audio file that MtR made.
If you need subtitles then dont check the Author As box, but if you dont then go ahead and check Author as and select DVD and hit Mux.
If you need subtitles then after its muxed, then go to Tools > Author and select the mpeg with the sound and the subtitles you want (needs to be in text so youd probably have to rip them with D-Subtitler to get a .srt file)

Can I use Handbrake to backup a DVD I bought to play on my TV. I don't want to view on an iPod or use Apple TV, just a backup copy.

i would use handbrake to get film's for my iPod though i would use Mac the Ripper to backup the DVD's onto another blank DVD,
