  1. I recently got a Motorola v3xx thru cingular. Soon after getting it I noticed that is supported HSDPA and 3G. I was wondering if there was any way I could use this phone as a modem so I could take full advantage of those aformentioned technologies. Can I? And how?

You can just press ?+shift+4 and then a little target will appear instead of your cursor. Go around your dock with that.

    NextSTEP

I am very interested in trying out the OS that spawned OSX NextStep. Is there any place I could download it. And if so how would I go about putting it on my PowerBook? Thanks.

For the record I have had to get 4 logic board repairs on my PowerBOok and it didn't change it too much for th eworse.

    Finder Crashing!

Yeah. I have been having weird problems w/ stuffit. For some reason, it was creating these huge cache files (over 500 MBs) on my computer that were hidden. I just wish less people used .sit and .sitx files.

    Reality Check

I have my PowerBook, a MacBook, an iMac, and a G4 tower. I am thinking about selling the PowerBook if I can find a buyer for it. If I cant do that I might send it to a server colo. I use my MacBook all the time and it goes wherever I go. The iMac is the family computer and the G4 tower well, I don't have yet. I am going to upgrade it and use it for a media server. Every year I buy a new laptop it seems because I am a little bit hard on my computers.

    Docks

Well, after a 2 weeks w/ my MB I have changed my dock quite a bit. Left to right: Finder, Mail, Cyberduck, Firefox, iChat, iStumbler, Azureus, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Soundbooth, iTunes, VLC, VisualHub, Photobooth, System Prefs, OmniOutliner, TextEdit, Pages, Terminal, Activity Monitor, Disk Utils, VMware Fusion, smcFanControl, Q, Address Book, iSync, and Quicksilver. Not to esoteric.
  12. I was wondering if I bought 2 2GB sticks of RAM for my Core2Duo MacBook, would it show up as 4 GB of RAM or has Apple taken the low road and done a software limit?

What is your internet download speed?

I get about 8700kbps down and about 768kbps up according to speakeasy. Wow (and I am in the US)!

    Docks

This is the dock on my new MacBook. Noting out of the ordinary. Oh and btw I found the dashbord over 1 year ago, then I realized I didn't care.

    What is openbase?

I just got my new MacBook and was browsing thru the Applications folder when I found an app called Openbase. I don't know what it is nor do I remember installing it. What is it, why is it installed automaticly, and is it safe to delete?

  18. I have a cellphone with bluetooth, can I use my PowerBook as a speakerphone so I no longer have to talk into my cell phone? And if so what software do I need? My phone is a Nokia 6101i
  19. You provide the domain name (and if you don't have one, one can be provided for a fee) we provide the hosting. You get tons of bandwith and 5 MySQL databases for a very small (and negotible) price. Contact me at csporn@gmail.com
  20. Is there any backup app that does these things: I would love to sync everything up so that if I erase a file, it will stay on my external, it also needs to be bootable, and I would love to compress the files so my LaCie won't fill up. Is there any backup program that does that?

Looking for my dream backup app

Okay then, scratch the compression. Is there any backup app, or am I going to have to use a mix of apps? If I need to use more than one app which ones?
  22. First of all, it is now on it's own domain. http://freecasts.net And on that domain is a pretty OK blog. And of course Fredric's Fantastic Freeware. We all ready re-launched and now is the perfect time to jump on board and learn about some great Mac Freeware. That URL again is http://freecasts.net

    Quicktime error

Whenever I am surfing the web (it doesn't matter which browser) and come accros a quicktime media file, I get an error. The whole place where the movie is supposed to play goes black and on that black box there is printed txt that says "No Picture." If I wait a few seconds/mins it will start to play if it hasn't crashed my web browser. What is up? I have tried reinstalling QT to no avail.

    Quicktime error

I do have VLC. How would I make it so that VLC handles all of the media, not quicktime?
