    My Issues with APPLE CARE

Thanks for everyone's responses. I spoke with AppleCare again yesturday. I was told that the repair had been completed. and would be shipping out sometime today. I'm still not positive if my display has been repaired or replaced, but I should know within the next week as it will be returned to the Apple Store.

    My Issues with APPLE CARE

So, I dropped off my 20" Cinema Display at the Apple Store (Burlington) on Friday October 7th. I dropped it off for a couple of issues I was having with the display itself. There were a few bright spots on the screen along with, what looks almost like a screen burn from the dock. I was told they could not replace the display and would have to send it out for service. Nothing that my Apple Care would cover the problems. On Saturday October 14th, I called the Apple Store to check the status of the display. They told me they would check on it and call me back. Later that day I received a voicemail message from one of the Geniuses saying that he contacted the repair center and the repair was on-hold because the damage was caused by some external damage. Now, when I dropped off the display it was in pristine condition (aside from the issues with the screen itself, which was the reason I was bringing it in for repair) as it had been sitting on my desk from the day it was purchased. Today, Sunday October 16th, I contacted Apple Care. Apple Care then contacted the Apple Store and confirmed that there was no external damage when it was dropped off. On the work contract the condition of the monitor was listed as "Good." I was told that now with the store's confirmation of the monitor's condition, that my repair would now get the green light and would be started this week. I then asked what this "damage" actually was, she told me that the upper left corner was smashed in and there was also some type of crack on the monitor. I didn't get too many specifics regarding the extent of the damage or exactly where this "crack" was located. My issue with this is, now when the monitor is repaired, I will be receiving a monitor that has been damaged while it was out of my hands. Possibly causing more issues down the road, where I will have to bring it back into the Apple Store, where they will send it out for repair and I will be without a monitor for more time. I called Apple Care back and was told there was nothing they could do. They said that Apple was doing this as a courtesy, as there was no proof that the damage was caused by them or the carrier they use. Even though the monitor was in perfect external condition and was noted as "condition: good" on the work order. It's already been over a week and my monitor is tomorrow (finally) going into actual repair now that it has been signed off on. So I assume it will be about another week before I will possibly have it back in my possession. This has me extremely upset, as I have always had a great experience with Apple the company and all of my Apple products. If anyone has any feedback please let me know.

To buy a new G5 Powermac or not

    Thanks for all the help.
  4. I'm trying to decide whether to purchase a new G5 Dual 2.0 GHz Powermac for $2000 or to purchase a used model for considerably less, add about $300-400 in upgrades along with no Applecare and wait for the Intel Powermacs (or whatever they call them by then, Mac Pro?). Any comments and insight would be very helpfull. Thanks!
  5. Thanks. I'm going to bring it by the Apple Store this weekend and see if they have any ideas.
  6. I have been having an issue when using my iPod dock and the USB cable. When I connect the iPod to the dock a message appears which says "Firewire connections are not suported, to transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided." However, I AM using the USB cable! When I connect the USB cable without the dock, there is NO problem, only an issue when the dock is connected. I have done all upgrades on the iPod software and also 10.4.5, any ideas?? Thanks!

To buy a new G5 Powermac or not

Here's a breakdown of my options... NEW G5 Powermac Dual 2.0 GHz 160 GB Hard drive 512 MB RAM 3 years of Applecare cost: $1999 (with student discount plus Applecare) Plus I'll add more RAM in the next few months ($210) -------------------------------------------------------- USED G5 Powermac Single 1.6 GHz 80 GB Hard drive 512 MB RAM no warranty / no Applecare cost: $700 with this set-up I'd have to add more RAM ($210) and a larger hard drive ($150)

To buy a new G5 Powermac or not

Well right now I have a 1.42GHz Mac Mini accompanied by a 20" ACD along with a 1.67GHz 15" Powerbook. I am a graphic design student and would rather do all of my work on a desktop setup. The Mini is a great machine for what it is, but wayyy too much of the spinning beach ball when doing any designing in Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. Applecare is a must for everything I buy, especially large purchases like this.
  9. I had heard there was a website that had a ton of Steve Jobs keynote speeches available for download. However, I can't remember the URL, does anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance.
  10. I'm curious what you guys (and gals) think I should offer for this G5 PowerMac... It's a first generation G5, from 2003. 1.6 GHz 80GB Hard Drive Superdrive (CD/DVD-RW) 256 MHz of RAM I'll be doing some upgardes on it. Especially the RAM. Thanks!

    Steve Jobs Keynotes website

Thanks, but the one that I'm talking about is a non-apple.com site that has a bunch of keynotes for download.
  13. Sorry to contribute to the shilling, but I have a bunch of textbooks I need to purchase and wanted to help promote my auction on eBay for a BRAND NEW Apple Mac OS X Tiger Dashboard mousepad. These are the same mousepads you see in the stores with the Mac set-ups. Extremely rare and hard to find. You can check out the auction at: http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29296-2357-0...06551910&lk=URL Thank you, have a great weekend!!
