  1. Reading List in Safari

It's also good to note that there's a 'hidden' toggle on the Mac version of Safari for Reading List. On the reading list sidebar, be sure to scroll all the way to the top. Above the topmost article is a hidden search bar and button toggle. My guess would be that your toggle is set to 'Unread' instead of 'All'. Once you open an item from Reading List, it's marked as 'Read' and if you're only seeing the 'Unread' items, it'll look like it disappears from there. See the picture below for a better explanation. I'm not very familiar with Reading List on iOS so I can't give much help there. Hopefully this fixes your issue.
  2. I know you said you've tried some third-party software but I'd really recommend TuneSpan. I've been using it for a while and it works great. Plus, it's discounted today (Tuesday 17 Dec) as part of the TwoDollarTuesday promotion. (I know this sounds like an advertisement from the company, but it's not! I use and love TuneSpan. I just wanted to get the word out since it's only $2 today.)
  3. Can anyone suggest a good podcast app?

My vote goes to Downcast. It's the one I've used for years and I think it's great. It's really easy to set up exactly what you're wanting. The shows will play and then auto-roll right into the next one.
  4. Try this. Preferences>Devices>Prevent [devices] from automatically syncing (check) Summary Tab>Options(near the bottom)> Automatically sync this iPhone when connected (uncheck) Apps Tab> Automatically install new apps (uncheck) (near the middle) I'm like you, I don't use my computer to sync ANYTHING with my iPhone anymore except for the occasional ringtone. I've not had the problem that you're talking about because I don't have any iOS apps on my hard drive. I would try unchecking those two items that I mentioned above, disconnecting your iPhone, deleting all of your iOS apps on your computer hard drive and then plugging your iPhone back in to see what happens. Of course, do a backup before any of this! Please report back and let us know what worked. I hope this helps.
  5. I think this is one of the most frustrating things about Mail.app. Luckily though, there's a fix! It's just well hidden for whatever reason. Window menu> Previous Recipients. From there you can delete any address that isn't valid. This should solve your issue!
  6. iTunes opens by itself and starts playing

Have any Apple TVs in the house? I've had problems where my aTV remote also gets paired with my Mac for whatever reason so pressing 'Play' on the remote for the aTV will start playing music on my computer. System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Advanced…>Disable remote control infrared receiver. Another possibility: ever installed an app that acts as an iTunes remote (or has that functionality built in such as Alfred)? Maybe you have an app like that running in the background unbeknownst to you and some key combination is triggering it. Check all of your installed apps. Check your Login Items (System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items). If it happens again, open the Console (Applications>Utilities>Console) and review it for anything that might answer your question.
  7. Can not print to a shared printer

Have you tried completely removing the printer from the MacBook's system (in System Preferences) and re-adding it?
  8. I realized App Store was easier. Interesting.

I buy in the App Store as long as there's no difference between versions. For something like the app you described or a text editor etc it's a lot easier to buy through the App Store. But when it comes to the apps that need more system level access - i.e. TextExpander - I definitely buy straight from the developer.
  9. Wanted: Cloud storage without the syncing!

Sounds like you just need an FTP server to throw the files on. You'd have to pay but it would get your files offsite and you could access them anywhere. Maybe AmazonS3?
  10. Safari 6.0.3 Won't Load Images on Webpages!

Do you have the Developer menu enabled? There's a toggle in that menu that says 'Disable Images' - you might want to check that. You could always just wipe and reinstall Safari but, unfortunately, I don't know of any good way of doing that other than re-applying the latest OS X combo update since Safari is packaged with the system now and Apple doesn't provide stand-alone downloads anymore.
  11. How To Connect iMac To Network

Yeah, if your Netgear is also a wireless router it looks like it and your AirPort are trying to coexist…which isn't really happening. Personally, if I were you, I'd put the Netgear router into bridge mode (which is turning off the DHCP) so it acts like a modem and I'd use the AirPort as my router. Apple's AirPort Utility for the Mac is nice and easy to understand and other router interfaces are generally more confusing. That being said, what John suggested would work, too - in that case you're just using the Netgear as your router and putting the AirPort in bridge mode. Be sure to post back and let us know if this worked.
  12. Where is the 128Gb iPad?

    From the Press Release:
  13. May dump iTunes Match. What should I do?

I've never (and have no current plans to) cancelled my iTunes Match subscription so I'm just going by guesses here but I would think that as long as you have the songs physically downloaded to your machine (a Mac, not an iOS device), you won't lose anything after cancelling your service. Your library will just go back to the way it was before subscribing. Also, I'm pretty sure that Playlist syncing is part of the service. I can see my playlists on my iPhone. Further clarification from Apple's site:
  14. Clip from "jOBS"

    1. Still hate the name. 2. Still not the biggest fan of Kutcher (though he looks the part, I still can't get past his 'That 70s Show' 'stupid' voice) 3. I still plan on seeing the film, though I'll wait for post-theatre release. 4. Man, I still hate the name.
  15. Looking for a vector drawing program

Google SketchUp? I'm sure there's a free one somewhere on that site.
  16. Airport Express can it do this?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. You're still probably going to get 'Wi-Fi' speeds since it's not directly connected to the modem but if you don't care about speed (that much) and you just need the wired connection, it certainly looks possible. EDIT: A quick Google search brought up many results of people making this work.
  17. How to delete list of Reminders

Assuming iOS 6: Open Reminders, tap the button in the top left corner of the screen (has 3 lines on it), tap the Edit button on the top right of the screen, tap the delete circle next to the list you want to delete, tap the delete button. On iOS 5, the process is similar but I know the layout of the app is different. Maybe someone here still has iOS 5 and can test - all my devices are on iOS 6.
  18. Safari / ?Javascript Problem

What are some pages specifically are you having problems with?
  19. Based on this Apple Tech Doc, you can change the region of your DVD drive up to 5 times. A quick search with Google brings up plenty of results - at least one of which should get you the info you want. All that said, I've never needed to do this and I have no experience with any of this hacking. Finally, I trust Huskermn - if he said he's had success with VLC on a few Macs then that's probably your best bet.
  20. Sleep is not an option?

Is it just the display that doesn't come back on or does the whole computer not come out of sleep? You're definitely not losing your mind, the suggestions that the Apple tech gave you just seem ridiculous. There's no reason that you should have to shut down your computer instead of putting to sleep and the fact that you were told that you wouldn't have to back up before you reinstall the operating system makes me really question this person's tech support ability. There's definitely something wrong with your computer and since you're still under AppleCare I would strongly suggest trying to call them again and hopefully you'll get a better tech support person this time. If you're near enough to an Apple Store I would definitely suggest going in for Genius Bar appointment so you can at least show them what's going on. Try resetting the PRAM (though I'm not sure that will help). You could try reinstalling the OS but in all honesty, this sounds much more like a hardware problem than a software one. The only thing I could think about on the software side was if you had some sort of app or utility that you used that controlled the sleep mode on the Mac and it's having compatibility issues with Mountain Lion. Otherwise, this sounds like hardware. In short, keep trying with AppleCare/Genius Bar. You're still covered under warranty and if I were you, I'd do what I can to report (well, 'report' is kind of a bad word) the AppleCare tech support person that you spoke with. The 'advice' you received just makes no sense. Report back when you get this issue solved and let us know what was going on. Good luck!
  21. From the back of my closet!

Ok, so nothing super special here but I don't know what else to do with this stuff. If you're interested in anything, let me know and name your price. 1. 2x 1GB RAM sticks. Originally in my MacBook Pro 15" (Early 2008). I upgraded to 4GB RAM a few years ago and these sticks have been sitting in my closet ever since. I also just sold that machine this week so I really won't have any use for this RAM. I don't know much about RAM (like what specific machines it will work on - I just use the RAM finder on Crucial when I'm buying) but if this means anything to you, these are the numbers printed on each stick: M470T2953EZ3-CE6 0809. 2. 2X 1GB RAM sticks. Originally in my (refurbished) Mac mini (Mid-2011). I upgraded to 8GB RAM the day I got the machine (before I even turned it on) so these RAM sticks are virtually new and unused. Again, here's the numbers printed on them for reference: M471B2873GB0-CH9 1120. 3. iWork '08 Retail Box. I doubt anyone will want this but I've got no use for it anymore. I don't really want to ship the box for just a serial number so I can link you to an .iso of the disc online where you can download and also send you the serial number. 4. Pixelmator Retail Box. This is an old version (I think around 1.4 or so) and you won't be able to update to 2.0 but if you're fine with older software you can have it. Again, I can link you to an .iso of the disc and send you the serial number. Like I said, nothing special but if you're remotely interested let me know by posting here or PM-ing me and name your price. Thanks.
  22. Deleted reply icon in Mail app - SOLVED

That looks like an older version of Mail.app than I'm using. Can you not right-click on the toolbar and select 'Customise Toolbar...'?
  23. Try this: Close the App Store, remove the caches in the folder ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore (just drag to Desktop), relaunch the App Store. I have no idea if this will work. I tried it but of course it saw all of the apps that I had installed on my machine. Since you removed your Lion machine from Spotlight and unmounted it, the 'receipt' of your downloads and purchases of your apps may still be in cache. Maybe this will clear it out. At worst, you can just copy the apps over from your Lion partition into your Mountain Lion partition.
  24. MacBook Pro upgrades

I am a little nervous. I've been using a 15" for the past 4 years. I don't know how I'm going to adjust to a 13" screen. I wanted to get another 15" but I just couldn't justify the extra cost. Plus, I'll be carrying the machine all over the place on campus so I think the lighter 13" is going to be so much better. The 15" was just way too heavy. I still have my Mac mini too so that can be my workhorse if I need it to be.
  25. MacBook Pro upgrades

Sounds great! I just today ordered myself a new 13" MBP. Got it with 8 GB RAM and an SSD drive (I don't need the space so I went with the cheapest 128 GB). This should be a major upgrade from my 4 GB RAM and slow spinning drive. I can't wait for it to show up next week.
