  1. I am new here so I am curious how fanatic some people are here for Apple products. I currently have a blue & white G3 tower, a pismo (firewire), iMac G3 700 mhz SE, and my main computer a iMac 20" 2.4 ghz mid-2007 running 10.6.3 snow leopard. The blue & white G3 tower is used for as a type of itunes server, the 500 mhz pismo is a laptop given to me by a friend and is used for just to kill time when away, the iMac G3 was my second mac and I just can not seem to part with it, and finally my main machine, the 20" iMac does everything from photo and video editing to play music to my Apple express in the living room. For some strange reason I tend towards G3 models maybe I hate to see machines with a few good years in them go to the dump.

    Keeping my iMac cool

I am in the same situation with a shelf over my iMac. I called Apple and the tech told me unless it is shutting down it is ok, not a good answer as far as I am concerned. I bought a small desk top fan to blow at the intake vent in back of my imac 20" aluminum to help circulate air. This helped somewhat, but then I found SMC Fan Control which is for laptops, but I thought I would give it a try on my imac. It does work to a point to set a new setting for hotter weather conditions and does cool the mac without making to much extra noise from the fans. The fans will rev up a lot if you max out the controls and will do a strange thing in that in some of the components will actually get hotter while other cool off. Give it a try and see what happens.

What is the best vintage mac ever made?

When you say vintage this is a defined term used by Apple and includes more modern macs. The definition can be read at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1752 which makes it clear what Apple considers "vintage." In another two and half years my 20" imac mid-2007 will be classified as vintage, but I think my iMac G3 700 mhz SE is the best mac as far as vintage macs go until my 20" turns 5 years old.
