  1. Hey all, I just got my MacBookPro yesterday, but am having some issues with wireless. The same thing was happening with my iBook, but the problem has gotten worse, the Pro sometimes won't see the network. It randomly drops from full signal strength to nothing, and it is really frustrating. I thought it might be a setting on my network, but I borrowed the express from a friend, and don't really know much about configuring wireless anyway, Is poor wifi performance a know issue, not poor signal strength bu dropping signal altogether? The network is shared with two windows laptops, might this be making a difference? Thanks for your help, Steven

    iPhone in Ireland

Ok, having done some investigation, it appears we in Ireland are being charged 50 euros more per iPhone than the UK market, but the o2 tariff in the UK includes more minutes, and unlimited data..... Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

    iPhone in Ireland

So, O2 has announced that they will be selling the iPhone in Ireland for 399 for the 8gb and 499 for the 16gb. But the data plan is absolutely silly, a 1gb a month limit, with additional data charged at 2 cents a mb, and no visual voicemail support. Why bother launching a product at all if it is not going to be fully supported, and will cost an arm and a leg to run. How does the rest of the package/tariff compare to the US and Canada? Link here: http://www.o2online.ie/wps/wcm/connect/O2/...e/Find+out+more This is seriously annoying, obviously we are a good market for Apple in Ireland, but to be treated like this is just awful. LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Hey, I ran the Testdisk analysis again, and I got this message: Disk /dev/rdisk1 - 120 GB / 111 GiB - CHS 234441648 1 1 Partition Start End Size in sector s Structure: Ok. Keys A: add partition, L: load backup, Enter: to continue

LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Ok, it appears I will not be able to use photorec, mostly because I dont know how it works, how to sort out the stuff it finds, or anything of that sort. Can someone please tell me how to use senuti to rebuild my itunes. The library is there, I just want my music back. I have the drive left alone, so I'll try to get that working again, but getting my itunes back would be a major bonus.... Please, help.

LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Ok, this has gone back to the start, i.e. it has started analysis all over again. Don't know what has happened, clicked continue, it went back to the main menu, and started analysis all over. Have stopped it, and running photorec instead, its bundled with testdisk. Photorec has already stared detecting my mp3s, mpegs and riff files, so i'll let this run, recover my data, and see if the testdisk will run again. In short, testdisk got as far as the last message i posted, said can't recover, but photorec is working through the drive, recovering my stuff, i think.. LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Disk /dev/disk1 - 120 GB / 111 GiB - CHS 234441648 1 1 Analyse cylinder 229863424/234441647: 98% Read error at 8288/0/1 (lba=8288) HFS 40431000 3604381079 3563950080 So 98% done, 27 hours later. One fault found. Now testdisk might have been great at finding the fault, but will it be able to fix it. Should have a 100% completion in an hour or so.

LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Disk /dev/disk1 - 120 GB / 111 GiB - CHS 234441648 1 1 Analyse cylinder 204972032/234441647: 87% Read error at 8288/0/1 (lba=8288) HFS 40431000 3604381079 3563950080 As of this moment, I'm 87% done. Any idea what the HFS line is about. It appears to be the only thing it has picked up in the entire analysis programme. Got a reply from LaCie support, telling me to try reformatting my drive, and if that doesn't work send it away for service. After this they warn that reformatting will prob erase your data. Handy advice.....

LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Ok, a few hours later, thought I'd update my progress so far.... Disk /dev/disk1 - 120 GB / 111 GiB - CHS 234441648 1 1 Analyse cylinder 164323328/234441647: 70% Read error at 8288/0/1 (lba=8288) HFS 40431000 3604381079 3563950080 Any opinions on what I'm getting? Should it be taking this long?

LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Its working through the analysis now, been on for a few hours, is at 7 percent. It gets about 3/4 per cent an hour, so by my estimation, I'll be here for the next 30 or so hours.... Small price to pay if my data comes back ok.... This is the latest from TestDisk: Disk /dev/disk1 - 120 GB / 111 GiB - CHS 234441648 1 1 Analyse cylinder 17289216/234441647: 07% Read error at 8288/0/1 (lba=8288)

LaCie Rugged Drive - Not reading data.

Thanks guys, running TestDisk now. It is slow, but working through the cylinder. As a poor student my pockets dont support much of anything in the way of paid solutions. Rang a recovery company, and they quoted me 400 to 700 euros to recover, saying it was a file system problem. What should I do after testdisk has gone through the analysis stage? Won't reformat until I have to, data is important, but if lost, I can prob get over it. Is there some way to re-rip my music collection from my iPod, preferably cheap/free solution? Oh, and I know, it was a stupid move to have the files only in one place. I have old backups of some of my data, but not my iPhoto, or iTunes. Again, I know iTunes is recoverable in some way, but iPhoto is what I want to get back. Thanks for all your help, Steven
  13. I recieved my new LaCie Rugged 120gb drive last Wednesday. From the outset I was a little put out that I was required to use the additional USB power adapter to run the drive on my iBook G4, as it takes up all my available USB slots. The USB data cable also seems to be quite a loose fit, and as such, the drive was disconnected a couple of times without being ejected. In order to solve me available port problem, I purchased a Canyon CN-USBHUB3 powered USB hub, which gives me 4 new USB 2 ports. This device is working perfectly with my 1gb flash drive, and my 5th Gen iPod, but when I tried to connect up the LaCie drive, no luck. I tried to connect the LaCie the way i had been connecting it in the past, through the two USB ports on my iBook, but no joy there either. I am quite worried about this, I have moved my iTunes music, my iPhoto library, and some old documents ot the drive, and have not had the time to create a backup (the reason I got the drive was to move them from my laptop, but I intended ot burn DVD backups also, just have not had the time.) All of this data is irreplaceable to me, particularly the iPhoto data. The drive shows up in Disk Utility, but read an error 'Unable to read FAT (Input/output error)'. I have tried directly powering the drive, different cables, everything. I am worried the problem would now be worse, as the drive has been spinning up, and manually disconnected a couple more times, how much damage is this likely to have caused? Please tell me there is some way to get my data back, and to get the disk operational without having to resort to reformatting, and loosing everything. I am a basic user, so please keep suggestions, or referrals as simple as possible. Thanks a million for any help you can give, almost at my wits end here with this problem.
