    Control + eject button

It's disabled by Default in pretty much all versions of OS X. Don't know why exactly.

Snow leopard and iStat Pro do not agree

You are probably going to need to wait until they update iStat Pro. I believe they are using the old way of calculating the hard drive space (1024 vs 1000). There is probably little that you can do to make them equal until then.

    Control + eject button

You can use the Tab Key and then press the spacebar to choose the one that gets the "highlight" around it.
  4. I thought that I would give a brief recount of my story here that it might help others. about 7 years ago I started drooling for a Mac. About 6 years ago, I got my first one. Now, I have helped more than 20 people convert and counting. Because tomorrow I will order 9 Mac Minis to replace the aging, ailing, anemic, and annoying Windows Desktops in our Non-Profit Agency. This story is a long, painful one over the last 5 years, however, last month I ordered 2 G5 PowerMacs off ebay and 2 copies of Leopard Server from Apple to upgrade/move our Non-Profit Adoption and Foster Care agency to the Mac. I am the only IT guy so I wanted to choose a platform that was/is inexpensive, robust, reliable and scaleable. So in the next week or so, when the Mini's arrive, I will be switching all the desktop users to OS X in one day. (Well, I'll be pulling their stuff over the weekend and they will have their new machines on Monday morning when they come in). Another $30,000 and I'll have all the laptops replace. Will be a long haul to get there, but worth the wait. I am looking forward to the day where the entire network is All Mac and I can say... "Windows? We don't need no stinking Windows." E

    More MKV questions

Someone correct me here if I'm way off base. But if I understand MKV files. They don't directly support subtitles. So the Subtitles you are seeing are from the Source video. Because of that, there will not be a way to remove them because they are actually part of the picture in the video file instead of data that the player lays on top of of the video, which is what a subtitle does.

    VMWare Fusion RAM Usage

Honestly, get the 4GB. It's not that VMWare takes up that much, Virtual Machines do, but only when they are running. But 4GB of RAM is going to be an overall more pleasant experience no matter what. If you can afford it, get the 4GB. J
  7. Archiving is really easy. 1. Open Mail 2. Select the MailBox you want to archive 3. Click Mailbox on the menu bar 4. Select "Archive mailbox..." 5. Select destination of the archive 6. click "Choose" That's it. J

    Mail Smart Mailboxes

create a new criteria, in the first drop down select "Mail is not in mailbox" and in the second drop down, select the "All Mail" folder on your google account.

    Mail Smart Mailboxes

Yes, what you need to do is tell your smart mailbox to exclude the messages from the Gmail's "ALL Mail" folder. This is why you are picking up duplicates.

    MS Office: '07 or '08

I have used Office 2008 pretty extensively and I haven't seen a lot of bugs. I have seen some quirks, like how it works, or more to the point doesn't, with Spaces. There is also OpenOffice/NeoOffice that works for just about everything except Access. J
  11. In Power Savings settings in System Preferences, you can setup Wake from Lan. This will wake the computer up when an administrator tries to access the computer. However, for this to work properly, you will have to have them Wired in. Wake On Lan doesn't work over Wireless.

    Firefox3 & Keychain

To put another 2cents.... This is also very smart, you don't want your keychain accessible to any Tom, Dick, or Harry who might walk by or poke around. J

    Firefox3 & Keychain

Also, the other benefit is that 1Password will be able to remember and fill out forms, like for example bank and credit card web sites, that don't allow the typical Safari or Mozilla save password features to work.

    Firefox3 & Keychain

1Password will help you with that. It will integrate just about all the browsers. Works very well I have found and I use it all the time. http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password Hope this helps.

    Office 2008 and Multiple Screens

Yes, I'm having issues with Office 2008 with Multiple Screens and Spaces as well. It's a bug. I'm sure they are going fix it. They had a similar bug in Office 2004 with multiple screens when someone disconnected it and it would crash. It was a strange bug. Anyway. you aren't alone on this one. But I don't have a workable solution other than keeping Office on the Main display. J

    Macbook or Macbook Pro

The one thing that the specs don't really focus on is the screen. The screens in the MacBook Pro are far superior, not just in size, but quality. However, there is another point for the MacBook as well. The MacBook has a user upgradable hard drive AND memory. The MacBook Pro has to be taken to an Authorized Service Center to have the Hard Drive replaced. The MacBook is also much lighter to carry around. If it were me, well it was about a year ago, I went with the Pro... Then I paid to have a 320GB Hard drive installed. So, there you have my 2 cents.

    iPhoto Library Size

well, no, deleting them from the trash doesn't do it. The only way I know of is to navigate to the folder mentioned in the previous post and delete them manually. However, you would want to be sure that iPhoto wasn't running, when you did it. I would not recommend doing it. Might be time to consider purchasing an external hard drive and moving your photos on to it? J

    iPhoto Library Size

ok, So when you are IN iPhoto the reason you aren't seeing the entire thing is because iPhoto saves a copy of the original photo when you make a change. So for example, lets say you take a picture in Landscape mode with your camera (Turned the camera sideways) and then when you bring it in to iPhoto you turn it to the correct orientation. Well, now you have 2 copies of both photos. This does this for all your edits. Red eye, etc. So you can easily have twice the size of your library. To see these files, you right click on your iPhoto library in Finder and select "Show Package Contents" then look at the "Originals" folder. That's where your originally imported photos are saved. Hope this helps. J

    Leopard Finder hangs

One of the things that makes Finder slow, is building the Preview Icons. You can try to turn that off by going to a finder Window and doing a Command+J and then unchecking "Show Preview Icon." I turn this off almost immediately, it helps a TON. J

    Serial Terminal app

Have you tried just using Terminal.app? You would do "screen <device>" where <device> would be the usb-to-serial adapter?

    Wirelss USB Stick

It will need to state that it's mac compatible because it will need to have drivers to make it work.

    Mac/PC Formats

This is not completely accurate. If the drive is connected to a PC, which is what your post indicates, it doesn't matter what the format of the partition is. As long as the computer you are setting can see and write to it, that's all that matters. If you are connecting the drive LOCALLY to the computer and swapping it between the two machines, then yes it would need to be FAT32. And if you were going to connect it to an Aiport it would need to be HFS+ J

    Leopard and iBook 1.33

My wife has a 1.25Ghz iBook with 1.5 GB of ram and she has no problem with Leopard. I don't have time machine running on it yet. But I suspect that after the initial backup, it would be fine over the 802.11g network.
