    Let's rock (you to sleep)

so… what happened to Apple’s announcment in September ~ redifining some entire market, and blowing all competition away forever?! * and something about price reductions too?! * um…. a totally new Nano-googleChromes is all that seems really new new. Touch is a bit thinner. Classic is, well, still classic. Hmm, disapointing. Scotty Australia. *[or words to that effect] Bring back THE CUBE for an announcement that re-defines a whole market. An updated iPod hardly counts. yes?

mobileME v .Mac - buy now?

hey guys, i bought my .Mac online, via a eBay seller. even though it had 'us shipping' i just emailed, and they were more than happy to simply email me the activations code!!! price was US$70 ~ so a HUGE saving compared with rip-off Australia. ps- also works for apple LAPTOP extended warranty. US$200, but in Australia $400!

mobileME v .Mac - buy now?

thanks everyone for the advice, only problem is... i have just found out that the .Mac thru Amazon is ONLY for US customers! urgh. yes, even though it is a box with a code inside, it can only be sold to people with a US address. bugger it! guess I'll have to pay $119 here instead!!!!!!

mobileME v .Mac - buy now?

I live in Australia, & so am getting ready to buy my 1st ever iPhone! and as such, am now contemplating mobileMe too. .Mac is ridiculously more expensive here than US (though there is no real 'product' & obviously no shipping issues/excuses Apple normally use). Also our exchange rate is now around 95% of US$1 & has been for months. > Should I buy .Mac now (discounted somewhere for $70) ready to be upgraded to mobileMe? do i 'need' mobileMe to get full use from iPhone, my Mac, syncing etc etc. is it worth the $, and thus ongoing yearly subscription - or is there cheaper alternatives out there. [would love to hear from any current users of .Mac] thanks heaps. Scott. ps- the whole WiFi access, mobile browsing/access, & crap coverage are big issues in such a huge country, with population of only 21million. I am worried even iPhone will be essentially useless if you step 1 block outside the downtown city centres here! -other than making a call. We have very high mobile/internet costs in Australia. :-(

    Are Macs getting less reliable?

i've only ever had 2 Macs; a fantastic PowerBook G4 12", that I got in 2003. and a crappy, poor quality, now dead, MacBook intel I bought 1 year ago. my 12" PB G4 is still in great condition (though the DVD/CD drive failed in it's 4th year), and battery is dead. But, it stills runs totally fine, and looks as good as it did after it's first year of use. my MacBook 2007, looks like it's been thru Iraq, because of it's cheap-o "made in a hurry to get 1 million of them out" factory somewhere. other than being dirty, 'white colour', it has hairline cracks all along the front where the 'top' (keyboard section) joins on to the bottom/outside shell of the computer! It doesn't do any serious travel/abuse, and when i do take it, it's put in a puffy padded 13" case! never been dropped, or bashed. On software front; things seem to continually crash. Apple programs, or 3rd party programs. Who knows why? My friend who bought almost same laptop as me 1 month earlier, doesn't have as many hanging problems. The worst thing now, is that it has totally crashed. Hard Drivve failure?! :-( I dunno. But now when i turn it on i get a flashing folder icon with "?" in middle of it... just blinking on screen. forever. tried to boot from DVD, but it can't even 'see' that I have a HDD in the laptop!!! i dunno what to do. we of course, don't have any Apple Stores in my city (or in australia).

MacBook or MacBook pro 4 Leopard?

thanks for the advice everyone. i went with the 'normal' MacBook. due to price constraints. how disapointing though; after already waiting 1 week for it (via a reseller), they told me today. It will be a bit longer because Apple have diverted a shipment of laptops to America, that was supposed to come to Australia guess (again) we see where Apple's priorities lie! urgh scott

MacBook or MacBook pro 4 Leopard?

g'day experienced Mac laptop users, I am about to buy a laptop, and was wondering if I should get the MacBook PRO? this is because I saw how amazing Leopard is going to be, and now wonder if normal MacBook will be able to keep up the pace/processing graphics over next couple of years. Background:- I am a Uni student, so this thing has to last me 3.5yrs till I finish college current laptop is 12" Powerbook, that is almost 4.5 years old (drive dead now) ANY advice would be great. and, anyone who has an idea about IF the better Graphics chip/memory in PRO machine is better for future-proofing. thanks Scott. MacBook is A$2108, mb Pro is A$2698 (after Edu discount).

USB webcams (that Yahoo/MSN etc) can 'see'

hi Mac Experts, I'm a switcher & am having all sorts of difficulty in finding a WebCam that will work with Yahoo, Messenger etc on a Mac. I have read that iSight ONLY works with iChat (totally useless, as I have only 1 friend with a Mac)! I bought a cheap ($50) USB webcam off eBay, which doesn't work with anything. Despite having installed 'mac drivers'. scott. ps- I'm using a PowerBook G4, 12", with latest version of OSX. Pps- I can't afford a $229 iSight camera either. (rip-off Australia Apple pricing) :-( H E L P ! ! !
