    Suggestions for new keyboard/mouse

Hi gang, I am looking for alternatives to the wired keyboard and mouse that came with my iMac G5. The mighty mouse has slowly lost its functionality (the track-wheel simply doesn't work 90% of the time despite religious cleanings) and I hate the keyboard's response/feel. I am looking for non-expensive solution. Preferably a keyboard with the volume and eject buttons on it (as is the case with the Apple Keyboard) and I want it to react like a lap-top's buttons. The mouse I have no idea. I want a track wheel and at least one button (obviously lol). I like the mighty mouse for the most part but its overpriced and stops working. Thanks for the input, guys/gals!

    Suggestions for new keyboard/mouse

I clean it quite frequently per Apple's instructions however it continues to fail after only a few uses. I think I have been convinced that the Apple Aluminum (wired) keyboard is the way to go. Now to pick a mouse. Thank you, everyone!

    iPhone home button acting up

Hey gang, here I come again to leach off of this community's collective expertise (I promise once I graduate from being a Mac novice I will contribute some help lol). Ok, here is the problem. Lately when I push the home button on my iPhone, nothing happens. If you press it and hold it down it will "work" but occasionally it will react as if I hit it twice in succession (i.e. sending me to my iPod controls). Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how much trouble am I in? In an unrelated problem, sometimes when my iPhone is locked down, nothing running, the "wallpaper" screen (while the phone is locked) will display iPod controls at the top (not in the title bar, actually at the top of the screen). Again, has anyone experienced this? If so, how much trouble am I in? Once again, thank you so much for your help! Cheers

    TimeMachine

Hi guys, I just got Leopard and so far so good. I use SuperDuper to clone my harddrive but I would like to use TimeMachine to backup important documents to another drive. I don't want to backup entire volumes, just, for example, user/documents. Are there any 3rd party apps that could help me with this? Thank you in advance. Cheers

    TimeMachine

Yeah I saw that but I literally only want to backup 2-3 folders ... that is a heck of a lot excluding! lol PS: Thanks for responding again, Graham. I feel like I should keep you on retainer lol.

    Installing New OS

Hey gang, I have a iMax G5 iSight. Obviously it came with Tiger. I have recently obtained (legally) a copy of 10.5. I know Adam and quite a few of you have a particular process of preserving existing data and doing a clean install. I have a clone of my harddrive, updated nightly, on an external hard drive via SuperDuper. So what do you guys suggest? What steps do you take when spring cleaning or installing a new OS? Thanks guys!

    Installing New OS

Thank you for your response, Graham. :-) I have my external drive connected via USB and Firewire from my newertech enclosure and the clone is already bootable. I will take your advice and run with it. I have been using AppZapper for a long time. Also, most of my programs are installed in my user/Applications folder. That shouldn't present a problem, should it? Thank you again, happy Mac'ing!

    Reversion back to old icons?

Hi guys, I don't know when this happened, but I just noticed it. It would seem that in my iLife software, when I go to "add to library" or any other command within the file menu, the box that shows up shows an iMac G4 rather than the iMac G5 it used to show. Look below: Any ideas as to what happened and how to fix it? Cheers

iPhone causing iMac G5 to lock up?

yeah, they used to with my old PC but I never had a problem with my iMac. eh, all is well that ends well; thank you for your response. I only wish I had done the two trouble-shoots separately so we would know if it was the hub or iTunes. Nonetheless I hope my experience will help others Cheers, everyone.

iPhone causing iMac G5 to lock up?

okay here is the deal, my wonderful girlfriend gave me a 8gig iPhone this past Friday for an early Christmas present (long story but it involves dropping my old phone in the toilet). Anyway, I am really getting into it however I have noticed that when I leave my iPhone in the dock recharging, my iMac G5 (OS X 10.4.10, iTunes 7.4.2 (4), iPhone 1.1.1) will "hang" or lock up. The mouse will not work, the keyboard will not work, nothing; its as if I am looking at a snapshot of my computer's desktop at the time of malfunction. Now I attribute this problem to my iPhone since that is when I remember it starting so that is why I am asking in this forum. Any help? Thank you in advance. Cheers.

iPhone causing iMac G5 to lock up?

UPDATE: I tried several solutions and came up with reinstalling iTunes and plugging the iPhone directly into the iMac (rather than using a USB hub). This seems to have solved the abovementioned problem temporarily.

    hard drive upgrade question

Hey Gang, quick question. My mother has a iMac G4 (flatscreen) USB2.0 model that just had its hard drive completely die. Now, before you ask, no, nothing was backed up. The Apple geniuses will only put in another 80gig hd for $300+ (including labor). My mother has found a local guy who will put in a hd for about $100 but will then charge $125 for about 100 gig hd. That can't be right, can it (see newegg.com)? My question is what type of hard drive does the iMac G4 require so that I can get more bang for my buck when I ask the professional to install it. As an aside, my mother is having a professional install the new hard drive because, from what I have read, install a new hd in an iMac G4 (flatscreen) is darn near impossible; is this true? Thank you for your help. Cheers.

It's time for a new Mac.

I tried putting my iMac 20" in my lap but it was to cumbersome and heavy ... it also pressed into my junk.

Odd iMac G5 (iSight, OS X 10.4.9) issue

Here is my problem, recently my iMac has been restarting itself at or about 3:15 a.m. on Friday mornings. The energy saver scheduler is not set to restart the iMac at that time (actually it is not set to restart at all). Also, now, when I put the iMac to sleep, the glowing, pulsating power light is like "supernova" bright. (I kid you not). Has anyone experienced this? It is too far removed from the 10.4.9 update for me to think its that, but who knows ... any ideas? Cheers

Odd iMac G5 (iSight, OS X 10.4.9) issue

Thank you however, as I understand it, this only applies to Intel based Macs and not PPC's, no (the SMC issues)?

Odd iMac G5 (iSight, OS X 10.4.9) issue

since 10.4.9 is already installed, do I need to de-install? (also, i installed via software update, not combo updater) Whats SMC? Where do I get the update? How do I reset the SMC? lol Cheers

    Artists Repeat on iPod

This problem just happened with me I did the following: 1. Checked to make sure the "artist" was EXACTLY the same (of course it was otherwise the listings, i.e. albums and songs, would not be the same) 2. Did a factory restore. Nothing helped so I ventured over to iLounge. Apparently this is a bug with 7.1 (7.1.1) where the new sorting feature is all screwed up. Now, not only do you have to make sure the artist info is EXACTLY the same but also, if you don't want the duplication, you must makes sure the sorting matches up. For instance For 52 Oasis albums the artist is "Oasis" but the sorting is not EXACTLY the same, the way I understand it, I must edit every Oasis song (not that difficult I am sure) so that it is sorted by "Oasis" and only "Oasis" rather than "Oasis " or " Oasis" etc. Now this is my understanding and I have yet to try it (and there are other theories over at iLounge) but one theme is the same, it is NOT the artist issue as was usually the case but the sorting issue. Cheers

    New OS X 10.4.9 Update!!

I have been "updated" (only the OS X update, not the iPhoto update) for about 4 hours now and it has run perfectly except one issue. I run "InstantShot!" and this is important as your will find out later. Once I updated and restarted, when I signed in I could not get a background for my desktop, it was just white. I tried signing out, I tried rebooting again, I even tried repairing permissions, nothing. Finally I went up to my task bar and checked the "InstantShot!" icon. During the update, apparently "show background window" option became enabled thus producing the white backdrop. I disabled the option and presto, all things normal. Frustrating but nothing major.
  23. Hey gang. I recently bought a 80 gig 5.5 gen iPod and have noticed something different from my 20gig 4 gen iPod. Even after listening to a podcast, podcasts are listed by artist within my Music>Artists> menu. I had never noticed this before and frankly it is fricking annoying. Is there any way to make sure my podcasts are not listed with my music on my new iPod? Cheers
