    Silly Question (but interesting!)

hey i just bought a 80gig 5.5gen iPod. When I sync/charge it it dims so dark that you can't see the rather impressive battery animation. Any way I can see this while syncing/charging? Just curious. Cheers
  3. I like using OS X Mail, and for the most part, since I am not a power user or business user, I feel it is superior to Outlook for my uses, but I have one complaint ... why must it be so hard to insert a hypertext link in email? There appears to be only one way and when you do it, you can't mask the link with text, you have to paste the entire link (knowwhatimean? in outlook you can insert, say, "http://forum.maccast.com" and have it appear as "The MacCast Forums" but not in OS X Mail) ... any hints guys?

I like OS X Mail 2.1 but ... there must be another way

Thank you so much! I can't believe OS X would make that so hidden, but hey, it works! Thanks again!

    Fullscreen Video iPod = iPhone?

Steve, was that you? lol This guy deserves the golden monkey lol It is disapointing, however, that it will only be nowhere the capacity of a regular iPod

    Dead iPod

wow, you just started asking questions outside of my vernacular lol How I did it was through iTunes 7 (the restore to default option on the "front page") i think the last stand alone iPod updater is right here otherwise Apple packages the updater in iTunes now.

    Dead iPod

Something very similar happened to me (the skipping tracks as if you were manually skipping really fast particularly hit home and also my 4gen would not mount properly etc.) I fixed this, albeit temporarily and must do it every so often, by reverting to factory defaults. Make sure you library is backed up on your computer and then just restore your iPod to factory default. This should solve your problem (it will happen again a few weeks down the line, maybe a month or two) until you buy your new iPod. Cheers

A project for the resident genius(es?)

Hey guys, I am posing this question/project here because I know there are many of you who are much, much more computer savvy than myself. Recently I was listening to MacBreak Weekly and during the program John Foster (is that his name?) made an off the cuff remark about turning a laptop into a universal remote control for your home theater. Ever since I heard this I can't get this very cool idea out of my head! I have searched high and low on Google for directions/ideas on how I might do this (only thing I have happened upon is a step by step process on how to turn my iPod into a universal remote ... no thank you), so now I turn to you. I guess you should know that I have a Dell 600m and I *believe* an IR port (however I could always buy an adapter if I had to). It runs Windows and Ubuntu (though I can't get the wireless to work on the Ubuntu). So any ideas, guys? I think its a neat project and would be ecstatic if you guys helped me work this thing out of my head. Cheers!

    iPod 6g to be delayed?

well I don't know what the differential would have been (nor do I want to turn this thread into a b*tch fest on my part) but at the time I didn't have a couple hundred dollars to lose on the turn around.

    iPod 6g to be delayed?

While I appreciated all the advice, its a bit easy for you to say. I am trying to plan my expenditures as the last time I invested a large amount in an Apple product, I got Jobs'd (bought a 20" iMac G5 and a week later the intels come out, that left a bitter taste in my mouth, the saving grace has been the G5 is still an excellent excellent product).

    Time for a new iPod

A video iPhone (i.e. a phone that was essentially a true video iPod that could make calls and also have PDA functionality) would be beyond a dream come true. I do not spend more than $300 on electronics unless they have 20" viewables and are called "iMac" but I would seriously consider paying upwards of $500 for something I just described.

    Time for a new iPod

Ok guys, I am still new to the mac world so I am not in tune with the comings and goings, the latest tech news, etc. Basically I know just enough to get in trouble lol. Recently, as has been documented on this board, my 4th gen iPod has been trying to tell me that it will buy the farm within a few days/weeks/months. Hey thats fine, she had a good run, we shared a few laughs ... here is the thing, I need to decide whether to ask for a new iPod for christmas. Now many would say, "Whats the debate, I mean you need the iPod." True, but I have been hearing things that a true video iPod might be coming out in December? Is this true? I guess my question (poll?) is this, do I just ask for the 5.5gen iPod only to be "Jobs-ed" in the weeks/months following my request or do I wait a few more weeks and hope the True Video iPod comes out before Christmas? What do you guys think? Cheers

    Shownotes

Adam and staff... First I want to say that I love the show and it is by far my favorite podcast. It is invaluable to a switcher such as myself. Having said this, however, I have one nitpicky complaint. Often you mention the "shownotes" at the end of the podcast or whatnot. You know it took me like a month to find those show notes on the show blog? lol Now I know that is more a reflection of my own intelligence than anything, but maybe you could underline "Shownotes" or maybe bold it in the future. Just a thought. Great podcast! Cheers

    Shownotes

its such a minimal complaint I hesitated to mention it, but if it helps, it helps. More my problem was not knowing where to look. Oh well, for me it was no harm no foul and I got on board once I was sick of not knowing lol

    Listen to iPod in car?

I second this as I believe this to be the best option. Like mobileexile states, it depends on the make of your car, my particular make made it very difficult to do (99 Boxster w/ CDR-220). I had to install a very small, albeit important, aux adapter to the back of the unit, but it was cheap and took only a bit of time. Direct input into the unit is definitely preferable.
  18. Hey gang, new Mac user (comparatively speaking, I have been using for about a year) and I have noticed that recently (I cant recall if it is since the most recent update to 10.4.8) I have lost to hear any audio when it comes to embedded video or audio in any browser I may use. This occurs whether you visit YouTube, ESPN, CNN, etc. Any suggestions on how I might going about fixing this? In the past it did work (occasionally, meaning always in Safari, sometimes in Firefox and almost never in Camino) but now it doesnt work in any browser. Thanks guys! Cheers

No sounded from embedded video/audio in ANY browser

Any idea as to what set it at 90000+ hz in the first place? I dont do any audio editing or video editing on my iMac. This was completely random. PS: Great Pod/Netcast!

is my iPod 4g (clickwheel) dying?

    Thanks? LOL

is my iPod 4g (clickwheel) dying?

I have a iPod click wheel, 4th gen, 20 gig that has a unique problem. Recently (and I think only coincidently since the installation of iTunes 7.0 and update to 10.4.8) my iPod has been having narcoleptic fits. What will happen is that no matter how much "juice" is left in the battery, it will act as if it is dead. Sometimes it will be "dead" for hours, not responding to the manual reset trick (even when connected to a wall outlet) only to miraculously awake to the gray apple, and sometimes the manual reset trick works every time. In another instance, I was lowering the volume and the iPod just "died" in the same manner as described above. I finally took some advice over at the Apple Support and restored my iPod to factory settings. This worked for about 3 days but then my iPod literally when crazy on me. It would not display any songs (it went so far as to say there were no songs on my iPod in the "About" section) but it said that 16+ gigs were being used. I did a restore again but now if you tip my ipod at certain angles it just shuts off. Is my iPod dying? Has anyone experienced this? By the by, the iPod is only going on 2 years this Christmas and is formated for Mac and updated to 3.1.1. Am I looking at buying a new iPod only to be "Jobs-ed" again when the True Video iPod comes out a week after I buy my new one? lol Any help would be appreaciated.
