    FS: Elgato Turbo.264

    This item is now sold.

    FS: Elgato Turbo.264

Elgato Turbo.264 in perfect shape with everything that came with it (Turbo.264 with end cap, USB extension cable, box and CD). The latest software is available from Elgato's website. This is the one that Adam always raves about and it works just like he proclaims. It's super for speeding up H.264 encodes on any Mac, but it's really helps a G4 or G5 the most. I have a new Intel iMac, and I'm happy with the encode speeds that I get from it alone, so I don't need the Elgato anymore. $60 gets it shipped to you via USPS Priority Mail. If you're overseas, we can talk, but I'd prefer to sell it here in the states. I've sold a few things here before and have excellent feedback on eBay as bhauke. PayPal preferred, but will also take a money order.

What is the best vintage mac ever made?

My favorite was always the Mac SE/30. It still had the small, all in one form factor but was reasonably fast (for the day).

I need cash, so I'm dropping the price to $50 shipped. I'm sure there's someone out there who could use this!

    Artwork for videos

Apple makes it difficult to grab the higher resolution versions of its artwork. There was a website that allowed you to do it, but Apple has since changed the way the iTunes site works, so the other website no longer works. I prefer to use the actual movie posters for films that I rip. A great source for these is: http://www.impawards.com/ The other choice is to grab DVD covers from Amazon or other stores that sell DVDs.

    Movie Artwork Freezing

If car1son's suggestion doesn't work (although I think he may be right), then take a look at the file sizes of those movies that you're having problems adding artwork to. If I remember correctly, there's some limit to the size a movie file can be. It's possible you're pushing it over that size by adding artwork.

    Video out on iPhone 3G

I bought the Apple composite video out cable and it works great with my 2nd gen iPod touch running 2.1.1. I've heard that some of the third party video out cables are shakey at best, so I'm going to bet that's the problem. I know the Apple cables cost an arm and a leg, but in this case I think they're worth it. One nice thing about the Apple set is that it includes an external power adapter.

    USB hubs

Ditto for one of those Kensington 7-port Dome hubs. It has always worked just fine. I like it because it has one port on top of the dome for quickly attaching a device like a flash drive.

    OEM memory

Another vote for Data Memory Systems or Other World Computing. I've used them many times and never had a problem. I've been using Macs since 1985 and have never purchased extra RAM direct from Apple and I've never had a problem.

    iPhone app different computers

The applications are linked to your iTunes account. You can copy them from one computer to another without a problem. When you wish to install, just make sure you're logged in to iTunes with the account name that you purchased them with.

    ipod touch wifi connection problems

Yes, there are problems with the wifi in the new touch. I had to turn off WPA encryption on my router to get my new touch to work reliably on my home network. Also, I usually have to toggle the touch's wifi on and off a few times before it makes a connection to any network. I guess Apple used a different wifi chip in the new touch and they need to make some software updates to make it work properly. There's a very long thread about this on the Apple discussion forums.

    Elgato Turbo 264

The Turbo.264 can't rip straight from the DVD. The copy protection needs to be removed first with something like MacTheRipper or Rip It.

    Suggestions for Internet Backup Companies

I also would recommend Amazon's S3 in conjunction with JungleDisk. The price per month is very reasonable. JungleDisk costs $20 and there are clients for Mac, Windows and Linux. You can use any of the clients anytime, so you can access your backups from just about anywhere. JungleDisk makes it easy to setup automated backups, and of course you can copy by drag and drop also. I use a combination of both.

iPod touch 1G to iPod touch 2G

I beat you to it: I purchased a 32Gb 2nd gen touch today at Circuit City. It came with 2.1.1 on it. I had heard that there was a specific version for the 2G touch somewhere, but I forgot to mention it. I also forgot to mention that if you already paid for 2.0 or 2.1, then you already have the file on your hard drive and it can be used to update any other iPod touch. I've done it for a few other iPods beside my main one.

iPod touch 1G to iPod touch 2G

Well, the Apple rep you spoke to was misinformed. Just watch Steve Jobs' announcement. He says that it comes with 2.1. And Apple would not show the app store on the iPod touch packaging if it didn't come with it, and that only arrived with 2.0. Believe what you want though. I'm positive it ships with 2.1. Just read some reviews.

    iTunes 8

There are two parts to the Genius feature: the sidebar suggests tracks from the store and the playlist creation feature makes playlists out of tracks that exist in your library. If the title doesn't exist on iTunes, it doesn't have the data to suggest a playlist (at least not until it gets smarter).

iPod touch 1G to iPod touch 2G

The minimum version for the 2nd gen touch is 2.1. I don't think it'll run on anything less. That's what it was announced with.

iPod touch 1G to iPod touch 2G

You won't have to pay for 2.1 again because that's what will come on your new 2nd gen touch.

    iTunes 8

I thnk my favorite feature is the ability to mass edit almost all of the tag fields now. I do like Genius, but it needs to be a lot more tweakable.
  23. It sounds like you have Parental Controls turned on. This happens to my kids' accounts, even though the only restriction I've put on them is one of time.

    Itunes library confusion

As long as iTunes is running, you can move files around in the Finder and you won't lose the links to your music. I do it all the time. So, make sure iTunes is open, then move one of those music folders into the iTunes Music folder. Now, just to make sure iTunes is registering this, try playing one of those songs. It should work. If it does, then move the rest of the folders.

My iPod touch with 2.0.2 still rotates when going from a list view to CoverFlow.
