    Notes in iPad

Hello, I take notes for meetings and classes on my iPad and I use an app called Notes Plus and though it does not do OCR, it is the most usable note taking application I have used so for (and I have tried about 5 or 6 of them). The app not only lets you write (I use a pogo stylus, but you can use a finger tip), but you can type and record audio. If you want to try to do OCR, you could output from this app to a .PDF and have Evernote do the OCR on the .PDF. I have not tried this, but it was suggested to me. LDJ

    Are you happy?

Hello, I got a 64g 3G model as a gift in May. I have used it to watch video, but not a lot, mostly video podcasts and netflix. I use it almost always on WiFi. 3G is more of an insurance, encase I want to use it and no 3G available. (I work for a University, so WiFi at home, at work) I use Notes Plus and a Pogo stylus to take notes for meetings and classes. I love DropBox. I use Zino (NatGeo). The battery is truly impressive! The bluetooth keyboard and a cheap plate stand make it an almost netbook. I also have several art applications and settled on Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. I keep finding apps that let me use it in new or better use it in ways I would not have thought. WiFi only vs. 3G is really a personal choice (and budget) issue. If you want the 'insurance' of access beyond WiFi, it is not a big deal to do a month of wireless. Hope this helps. LDJ

    Coding on iPad

Hello, I would like to write code (not expecting to run it) on my iPad and be able to save that code to DropBox. Is there an app that does that? It would be great if it had code coloring/Code syntax detection for Python, Java, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, & CFML, but that would just be a bonus. Thanks for any suggestions, LDJ

Any suggestions for a Stylus for drawing on the iPad

I use Pogo also, but I don't think a much smaller tip is possible, due to the software expecting a finger tip. Wish I could use something like a smudger instead.

MB: Wi-Fi (802.11g) WPA key changes

Hmmm...I guess it could be a corrupt keychain entry. I will give it a shot. Thanks! Lloyd Jessee

    ibook G4 charger broken

Hello, I would recommend just buying a new one. MCETech makes power supplies and battery chargers. http://store.mcetech.com/Merchant2/merchan...e=ACCACAUTOADPT As does Newer Technology: http://www.newertech.com/products/65w_poweradpt.php Lloyd Jessee

MB: Wi-Fi (802.11g) WPA key changes

I am sorry, so which is it, hardware or software issue? How do I fix it? Lloyd Jessee
  8. Hello, Sometimes I have problems connecting to my wireless access point (2Wire) and I will go through all kinds of steps (sometimes just turning the airport off on the MacBook then back on fixes it), and then I will find that the WPA key has changed. I put the key back in there and it works for 'a while'. The while can last a couple of weeks or just a day or two. This last time, the MacBook was continuously plugged into power and only was slept and the WPA key changed. I use a very strong key (from grc.com), but am worried that there may be someting wrong with my MacBook. My iMac and a PC laptop have not had these problems, but the iMac is a G5, so not sure if this is a hardware or software issue. I am thinking of cross posting in the Software Section also. Any suggestions or help appreciated. (Thanks Adam for the great shows) Lloyd Jessee iMac G5 2GHz 1gb-RAM 250gb-HDD MacBook 2GHz 2gb-RAM 80gb-HDD

SMB on OSX 10.4 gets confused

Hello, Thanks for the response. LDJ
  11. Hello, As a warning, this is an issue I am really fustrated about and it seems an obvious problem with the GUI of OSX, but maybe I am missing something. So, here goes the problem, first with the symptoms. On an OSX 10.4 G5 tower connecting to two (2) different servers, both Windows Server 2003 machines, both running IIS. One is a development server and one is a production server. People develop their online/web applications on the dev server and then move it over to the production server. The Windows shares on both machines have the same name. The folder structure is the same. The IPs are different, the machine names are different. I can get the G5 tower to connect to either server just fine. The Windows share mounts just fine (using the IP address), as long as I do just one at a time. If both drives are mounted, the mounts have the same name (the name of the Windows share) and dragging and dropping files will always go to one server, no matter which icon I drag and drop it on. OSX 10.4 GUI can not seem to tell the difference between these two Windows shares once they are mounted. I can go to the Terminal and can easily find the difference, as the IP address is part of the path in the directory structure and in Terminal, there is no issue with both of the Windows shares mounted at the same time. So, the ColdFusion person using this machine just wants to drag and drop files from their machine to the dev server and then from the dev server to the production server. Also, using Dreamweaver 8's Manage Site features, it also is confused (seems to use the GUI method for moving files). I think there could be something I am missing, but I have not found any switch, setting, or such that will make the Mac see the two Windows shares differently. Is anyone aware of this issue? Anyone have any fixes or work arounds? Thanks in Advance, LDJ
  12. Hello, In iTunes, podcasts that have not been listened to are marked with a little blue dot. Those I have listened to do not have the blue dot. Now, on the iPod, I can not find a way to differentiate between the podcasts I have listened too and the ones I have not. With serialized book podcasts, it can been fustrating. Anyone have a way to indicate on the iPod which podcasts you have and have not listened too? Thanks in Advance, LDJ
  13. Hello, I have a 20" G5 iMac and need to work on a new project. Ok, since I got the make, trying to do more and more work on it (leaving the old PC behind). For a while I have bought dual platform software, just for this kind of day. I try to install Macromedia Studio MX 2004 on the iMac, but it encounters an error and stops before installing anything. I have tried just installing one application (Fireworks, which is what I really wanted to use today), but that errors out at roughly the same point. It never gets to the point of asking for a serial number or anything like that, so I am confused as to what is going on. In the console, it lists this error: Oct 13 12:39:00 iMacG5 authexec: executing /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/Current/Support/LaunchCFMApp yylex: ERROR. So, I am at a loss as to what is happening, but I would prefer to get the Mac working. Any suggestions? LDJ

    apples 2 button scroller!

Hmm... I really like keyboards that click... (like the old OmniKeys...) I wonder how I will like a mouse that does not physically click. No one really seemed to mind the switch to optical mouse from a physical pickup (like the rollers). Just have to try and see. I would expect eventually this mouse to be standard with the Pro machines and a BTO option for all. LDJ

    apples 2 button scroller!

The interesting thing is that Apple points out that it works with Windows 2000 and XP. Why? I think this is for the Intel Macs, so that when someone installs Windows to dual boot the Intel Mac, they do not have to have a different mouse. I would expect a new keyboard that allows the Apple key to become a Window's key under Windows (or a driver for windows for the current keyboards). The mouse also has a speaker in it. What cool things will people do with that? LDJ
