Snow Leopard App hang - Solved apparently

I can now report that doing an install from the discs that came with the mac-mini (which did not offer a choice of style of load i.e. archive and install or full install) did the trick. I did have all my programs and profile intact. I have been running 2 days now with the same programs and devices connected and all is ok.

Snow Leopard App hang - Solved apparently

Did run the verify. Someone at a Independent Mac facility (Chesa Systems in Balt., M.D.) also suggest the combo update. I will try that tonight. (Fingers crossed)

Snow Leopard App hang - Solved apparently

Yes, and they had if for a couple of days. The initial test showed a drive volume failure and not reparable, so they replaced the HD. When I got it back, I reinstalled and for a period of time the problem was gone, but the recent SL update brought it back. I just wish I could understand the console readings. They are quite cryptic.

Snow Leopard App hang - Solved apparently

Yes, forgot to mention that. Yes, and when I boot up from the backup drive from one of the other mac minis all is ok, no hangs.
  5. This one is driving me crazy. I have 3 Mac Minis all running Snow Leopard but the newest one, which has Final Cut, Eye TV and Nicecast as it's main apps, will start hanging when trying to open apps after being booted for about 6 hours. I have done all the things I can think of. Reformatted the boot drive zeroing out data to remove any bad blocks, started from scratch reloading apps, repair permissions, Disc Warrior analysis, nothing seems to stop this. I thought I had removed the problem by uninstalling Snapzpro. The problem went away, but when doing the most recent Snow Leopard update, the problem has resurfaced. When I try to load any OSX app, DVD player, Quicktime, Disc Utility, they all hang, that is bounce in the dock but never load. The apps here are exactly what I had on my old G5 Dual 2.0 that I recently retired and replaced with this Mac Mini (2.53Ghz with 4 gig Ram) and that worked very well for 6 years. I could restore from my pre-update backup drive, but it won't prevent the problem from coming back on later updates, so I'd like to figure this one out.

iPod 606 Gig Color (the New one)

I have a new iPod 60 gig, my 3rd iPod. I have the original "Classic" purchased the day they were released at an Apple store (and it still works with limited battery life), and the Shuffle. The new 60 Gig has fixed the problem I have always had with long files on the hard drive versions of iPod and no longer produces gaps when playing long files when the buffer empties out and reloads. However I have had to reboot this iPod many times in it's two week life. I have just done a retore to factory settings to see if that fixes the locking up problem. At least there is no blue screen when it does lock up. There is a feature I discovered recently so I don't know if this has been there awhile, or is new to 4.9 since I never used Auto updating before, but if I am listening to a long file on the iPod, say an audiobook, then dock and open iTunes and click the file in iTunes Library, it remembers where I left off, and the same is true when I undock and go back to the iPod. THAT is cool! Looking at photos from iPhoto is cool too, and you can store both thumbs and full size if you want to load them on someone elses computer. The formfactor is great for a 60gig, still a little slimer than my classic and nice rounded edges. The push to click dial is the best so far. If I put in my shirt pocket, I rarely false trigger a button with it not locked. As far as external cases, I haven't found one that you can keep on and dock, so I using it naked for now. My Pioneer portable XM radio has a great case that has an open bottom for docking and I wish I could find one like that for the Pod. Now here is something I did not expect. I transfered a finished Final Cut Pro file, about 20 minutes long, to take home am make a DVD from . I experimented and opened Final Cut and imported the file directly from the iPod to the bin without transfering to a hard drive, AND IT WORKED! I could rake the play head back and forth and it behaved like it was on a fast hard dirive. I was able to encode (using BitVise) Directly off the iPod. And finally battery life is about as advertised, 10 to 12 hours, however if i place in the dock to listen out the line out, without firewire connected, and forget to turn off, it will drain the battery. I have selected Sleep on to see if it fixes that problem. My rating overall is a 9 out of 10. Not perfect, but very close to it.

-36 error when syncing iPod in iTunes

Hi, I got this error on my new Photo 60 Gig and found a post in the Apple discussion site that suggests that it's a power issue with the front ports on a G5 using USB. I moved it to the back of my Cinema Display, and did not get the problem (however it reverted to USB1.1 speed) so I ended up getting the combo firewire/USB connector, and use it off the Firewire hub I have connected to the back and no problems.

    track names

This Is Charlie, the Reverb guy in Springfield. Hey, thanks everyone for the great posts. Now if I had gotten "Chocolate Salty Balls" on a Merle Haggard song, I would move from the Twilight Zone to South Park!

    CDDB or Reverb Guys question

This is Charlie in Springfield. I did not name the disc when burning, and toast's default is "Untitled Disc" and I just left it at that since it was a one-off. This is (que music) da da da da,, twilight zone material. Where's Rod Searling? Maybe he knows.
