    Question about G5 20" iMac...

Thanks for everyone's help. I really appreciate it. I ended up buying it...I got it for $990 including shipping. I feel like that is a pretty good deal...what do you think? It has: 1.8GHz G5 CPU 20" LCD (it is an iMac 20" obviously) 2 GB RAM It comes with OS X 10.4 Those are the only things that I remember off the top of my head. I bought it yesterday and got the tracking number today so hopefully I should have it up and running in a week or so. I will post back my experiences. I'm really looking forward to it because right now the only other experiences that I have with Mac's was the original Mac Mini that I bought last year. I guess I wasn't ready for it at that time so I ended up selling it on eBay (for a profit though, so that's OK). I also have right now a blue and white G3 tower that I love using, but it is so slow. What I am actually thinking is that using this will convince me and my wife to start using Mac's exlusively and then I would probably sell this one and get a new intel iMac or possibly an intel iBook when they come out. We'll see, but I am pretty excited!
  3. I'm looking at a 20" G5 iMac with a 1.8GHz CPU in it. Does anybody have any idea how old this system would be? I know that the latest 20" iMac's were 2.1GHz, right? So is this one from the prior systems? If anyone has an approximate date as to when these computers either started or stopped shipping that would be great! Thanks in advance! (p.s. I am beginning to be a Mac geek myself. I've been a Windows user all my life, but I recently bought an old blue and white G3 from my state's surplus store and I am falling in love with it.)

iTunes Music Store and The SupreBowl

I'm surprised that there is no highlight show myself, but I remember seeing that the halftime show was put on by Sprint and they were advertising the fact that you could download the audio versions of the songs after the game on Sprints own music service.

    1GB iPod Nano is here

I bought one earlier this morning to replace my broken iPod Mini. It was great for me...since I am a student I only paid $129. My mini works fine using the dock connector, but the headphone jack doesn't work (has a lot of static and you can't hear the vocals, but Apple said nothing was wrong with it - if you have any tips please let me know) so I've been thinking about replacing it with something that I could have headphones with. The only thing that I listen to are podcasts, and quite frankly, Apple was about to lose my business until they came out with this. I'm looking forward to getting it.

Question for a new Mac Geek

Thanks a lot. I'm not sure yet weather I will go with 10.2 or 10.3...security isn't much of a concern for me as this machine will just be for playing and nothing serious. I do like some of the added features of 10.3, but I don't know if it is worth the price. I'll let everyone know in a few weeks how its going. Thanks again! -Andrew

Question for a new Mac Geek

Thanks...I REALLY appreciate all of your help. How much RAM can this B&W G3 hold, and what kind of RAM do I need? I have a new 160GB hard drive also (IDE, 7200RPM)...would that work? I'm coming from a PC, so please excuse my ignorance, but I just don't know what parts are interchangeable. Is it possible to use one of my PC's CD-RW or DVD drives and put it in the mac? Thanks in advance, and I really appreciate everyones help. -Andrew

Question for a new Mac Geek

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Does anyone know what the latest version of iLife that I can run using 10.2? Can I run iLife 05?

Question for a new Mac Geek

OK, I'm not a Mac Geek by any means, but I did just buy a buy a Blue and White G3 from my states (South Carolina) suplus property for $40. Everything appears to be normal with it, but there is no operating system installed on it. These computers came from some state department and most of the time they zero out the discs before they will sell the computer. Anyways, I was looking on eBay and was thinking about buying a copy of OS 10.2 to run on this. It appears that my system meets the minimum requirements. Does anyone have any experience with one of the blue and white G3's? I don't want to put a lot of money into it and that is why I was going to go for 10.2...it sells on eBay for about $35 or so (including shipping). Is this even feasible for me, or should I stick with OS 9.x? I'm new to the mac, although I listen to the MacCast all the time. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance! -Andrew

    iPod Invisa (again)

It is just a joke, but there were over 7000 people who enjoyed it yesterday, so I wanted to put it back up. If you don't like it then I apologize, but it is just people having a good time. Do I expect anyone to actually pay for this? No. But, I have had that eBay account for a long time and I haven't used it in a long time either. I had a credit on my sellers account that I could not transfer over to my regular eBay name (ajcannon) that has been sitting there doing nothing for months. I figured that I would give people some enjoyment. Again, I am not trying to get anybody mad or anything...just trying to have a good time. Merry Christmas!

    iPod Invisa (again)

After receiving over 7500 hits in less than 24 hours, eBay decided to take down my auction for the iPod Invisa last night. As soon as I woke up this morning I decided to re-list it though and you can now see it by going to http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5845123386. Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word yesterday...let's try to do it again! -Andrew

    The iPod Invisa

Obsolete or not, I'm holding it in my hands right at this very minute and I still can't believe what I am seeing (or not seeing). This is BY FAR the tiniest mp3 player that I've ever seen. My favorite feature is being able to throw the Invisa up in the air and it just stay there. I guess it doesn't listen to the laws of gravity. -Andrew

    Mac OS on non-Apple Hardware

I don't have any specific numbers or anything like that, but I am a PC user who bought a Mini when they first came out. I bought it with the intentions of trying it out for a little while and then upgrading to a PowerMac if I liked it. Well, I ended up not liking it as much as I thought I would so I sold it on eBay. I probably would have kept it, but at the time I knew that I could actually make money by selling it on eBay because it was still in high demand. Anyways, I just thought that I would share my opinions with you about that. I can understand how some people like Windows more than OSX. I do, but it is because I am used to the way that Windows operates I am going to get another Mac when they switch the Intel and just force myself to start using OSX. Once I give it a while and force myself to use only OSX then I will start to like it...it just takes some getting used to.
