    Why Windows Rules the World

That's what surpised me: the fact that the article seemed to miss the mark so much. After all, surely Apple built their reputation on 'ease of use.' I've spoken to a couple of people at work who've had to completely rebuild their PC hard disks. Also, unsolicited emails, viruses, etc are routine in PC-land but unheard of at least on my Mac.

    Why Windows Rules the World

Oops! Here are a couple of samples: In many ways, especially in its look and feel and ease of use, Vista out-Macs the Mac’s latest operating system—the Tiger version of OS X. However, that could change when Apple releases its Leopard version of OS X in the spring. But by favouring simplicity of use over simplicity of design, Microsoft has been able to leverage cheap but powerful commodity hardware, to provide cost-effective software solutions. These may be complex in design—and full of bugs to boot—but, boy, are they easy to use and maintain. That’s a winning formula in anyone’s book, and the reason why Windows rightly rules the world. I also tend to trust The Economist as they observe the original sense of the word Economist: that is, they base their opnions on facts.

    Name for rumoured tablet mac

Can't wait! I've been wanting something that would allow you to read comfortably for ages. Ideally, what I want is something that will allow you to read any computer text with the same comfort and textual integrity as a book. (The Sony reader only allows you to read ebooks they publish).

    Last.FM group

In order to get your music played on Last FM you have to create a label, which means you have to own the copyright to the music. Is that right? Presumably this would mean it's illegal for ordinary listeners to upload to the site? Is this the only way to get your music played on the site? PS I'm loving your musical taste, guys. Have discovered to my great pleasure Box Car Racer and Muse. Have also discovered that my default musical taste is distressingly fuddy duddy!

    Getting multiple podcast episodes

When initially subscribing to a podcast which has many episodes available, is there an easy way to get all the episodes without laboriously clicking each 'get' box?

    Please invite me to GMail!

Many thanks. Apparently a friend had created a Gmail account for me a year ago but I hadn't been aware as I didn't have the account set up in Mail. Harumph.

    Please invite me to GMail!

I'm having all sorts of problems with both my current email providers. Would one of you be so kind as to invite me to GMail, as that seems to be the way to go?

    Getting a mac

Well, I went for the flexible updateable model when I bought my G4 five years ago, but I find I've used very few of its capabilities. So, I thought I'd go for the 24" iMac as that has the all-in-one aspect which is aimed at the concumer-level market, which is basically me. Yes, I will definitely get Applecare. PS Sorry about the delay in the reply. I've only just been notified: think there's something wrong with my email server ): I have heard that fan noise is an issue with the iMacs, though, like you, it's rarely a problem for me. I spend much of my time listening to music/podcasts. lol! Many thanks.

    Getting a mac

Hi folks, I've come to that wonderful point where I've given myself permission to buy a new Mac! So, half the fun is in deciding what to get, right? That's why I'm asking for your help. Well, here's the thing: I love reading I love playing with (sorry, 'working at') my Mac I enjoy watching TV/DVDs Laptops are too heavy and large to read comfortably. Besides, I really can't get on with touch-typing and the awful scratchpad. (I know; it's just me!) Ideally I'd like to read in the comfort of an armchair. However, in the absence of one of those reading tablets they have on Star Trek, I thought I'd get the following: iMac + wireless keyboard/mighty mouse + TV adaptor With this I can use the Mac and watch TV from the other side of the room (in theory). Does this sound like a good idea? Have you got any other suggestions? While I'm at it, do you know of any reading tablets which allow me to read computer pages at the same resolution as the printed page? Thanks in advance for all you help.
  15. When I use 'Get Album Artwork' in iTunes 7 it always gets stuck, though each time at a different place. Any idea how I can clear this?

    Apple FM radio for iPod

Hi, I saw a review on the Apple site saying that this didn't work indoors! As I would be using it almost exclusively indoors, do you have any comments? Ideally, I'd like to get something that plays FM and Long Wave (so I can listen to the cricket! ). I love the idea of wandering around the house, iPod in pocket, perfect stereo radio playing in my ears.

    Apple FM radio for iPod

Well. at home I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time pottering around the kitchen, iPod in pocket, usually listening to podcasts. It would be great if I could listen to quality stereo radio when I choose to or to the cricket, which is on Long Wave. If I could do that I wouldn't bother with speakers; just listen exclusively through the iPod's comfortable earbuds.

    Getting a mac

Yes, it seems relatively easy to get an enormous drive which would be more than enough for my purposes. It used to be that you'd have a drive with loads of disks but that seems irrelevant nowadays. I like the idea of a Firewire chain: I have an iPod but I also want to get a decent mobile at some stage, so it would be good to have effective synching. Thanks for the help.

    Getting a mac

That's worth having. Any idea when it will be available? I suppose they won't be able to call it iTV here as that will clash with ITV.
  22. Hi Is there any programme that will allow me to send SMS text messages from a Mac to mobile phones? Many thanks

    Getting a mac

Okay, thanks. What about external drives? I've got an extra 150gb drive in my current Power Mac G4 which I would have to put in an external enclosure. You can gey huge external drives from, say, La Cie and they seem cheaper than the Mac option. Would this be a better way to go?
