So, here's my problem as I currently understand it… I have a [2014] Mac Mini running El Capitan, and traditionally I have just tethered it to the router [a Linksys E1000 I believe] via the ethernet. However, I've been trying to connect wirelessly instead and the mini will see all the local networks fine (mine and a couple neighbors), but when I try to connect it gives me one of several errors at random. Sometimes it asks for the password (which I put in and it proceeds to give me a "Unable to join" and a prompt to use diagnostics. Sometimes it gives me this message without even asking for the password. When I use the assistant, it will tell me I'm typing the wrong password (which isn't possible). This issue is occurring with both my home network, and my mobile hotspot. The Mac is literally maybe a foot from both devices, and the other 5 or 6 devices on my network disconnect and reconnect to the router with no problem. At this point I'm just trying to isolate whether the problem is the Mac, or the router, etc. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Currently I have a HP USB printer which is beginning to stop working. And I also have a Canon USB scanner. HP printer is wireless for now, thanks to Time Capsule, but I can't print directly from a Chromebook because there's no Google Cloud Print support. Canon's latest bundled software has a scanner app that's very buggy, and they haven't updated their software since Mac OS X v10.6. Ideally I am looking for an all-in-one that has at least Ethernet or WiFi connectivity with AirPrint and Google Cloud Print support. SD card support would also be a plus: if the hardware can function fully independent of a notebook, then I wouldn't have to worry about manufacturers providing weak support for non-WIndows notebooks.
  3. I have been using a MacBook Pro 15 inch Late 2011 (2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 8GB 1333 MHz DDR) for the past 3 years. This is the computer my work gave me. I layout print working with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and also code for apps using xCode. Due to cut backs the upgarde that work is offering is a new MacBook Pro 13-inch: 2.4GHz with Retina display 2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 - Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz - 8GB 1600MHz memory 256GB PCIe-based flash storage My old machine has 750GB spinning drive and the new has only 256 though it is SD Though I already have a firewire external drive of 1TB. I also use a second monitor both at work and home so the screen size isn't an issue. Should I take the new Mac or get them to substitute the DVD with the solid state drive, if they'll let me
