    View Options Trick

I noticed that in most playlists the "View Options" is greyed out in the View Menu. I discovered a trick to allow you to customize the view options anyway. If you right-click on the Metadata bar (the one that includes song name, artist, etc) you will be given a menu that allows you to select and deselect which metadata fields you would like to see displayed.

Manual Backup Eating All Storage Space

I'm taking my iPhone 4 (16GB, GSM) into the Apple Store tomorrow to see if I can get the battery replaced. As per Apple's recommendation, I did a full, manual backup to my computer. When I back up my iPhone to my computer manually (I normally use the iCloud backup), however, I notice that suddenly all of the free space on the device evaporates. Nothing new was added; in fact, I wiped my camera roll (which had about 800 MB of pics/vids in it) and ran the back up again, and it all disappeared. 3.4 whole GB are now eaten up by the "Other" category, easily three times larger than it was before. I would really appreciate a solution, as it has made it impossible for me to download podcasts. :-( Thanks, Nate

    iTunes Media Server

I'm getting to the point where I'm seriously thinking about moving all the iTunes media to a raid storage device (Drobo, QNAP, etc). Ideally what I want to do is move all the music, home videos, movies, etc. to this new device so that it is protected, can easily grow, and be accessed by the Apple TV. Obviously a NAS solution would be good, but I'm not against hooking something up directly to an iMac or mac mini if need be. I only have about 300GB of things now, but trying to plan for the future as well. Anyone have any experience with this and any suggestions?

iTunes 11 Home Sharing Drop Out

HI all, Hopefully some of you have experience of this issue and can offer help. I have been a multi apple product owner for many years now and 3 years ago purchased an Apple TV 2 to stream iTunes library content from my imac (media content stored on an external drive) to my TV wirelessly. At the time I was using the latest iTunes which i believe was 9 or 10. Everything worked perfectly and I enjoyed watching movies from my iTunes library on my TV downstairs vis the Apple TV2. About a year ago Apple updated iTunes to iTunes 11 and immediately Home Sharing became an issue with intermittent drop outs occurring. The Apple TV would then reconnect to home sharing and I could restart my movie. At the start this occurred once maybe twice during the course of the film. I hoped Apple would fix this bug in an iTunes update but I am now on 11.0.3 and it is worse than ever. The home sharing drops out multiple times during the film and could be up to 2 or 3 dozen times, making the film unwatchable. Since that time I have also purchased a second APple TV (3) for the bedroom and it occurs on that one too. The drop out can occur after a few seconds or I could get up to an hour of viewing before it drops out. There does not seem to be a pattern. It occurs when the mac is active and when the screen sleeps. Intensive google searches has found this to be a widespread problem and lots of people offer possible fixes including altering the router settings and security settings. I have tried all suggested fixes and non of them make any difference. It does seem to be a home sharing iTunes software problem requiring a fix from apple. But there is no indicatino anywhere that apple recognises this is a problem or are working on a fix. Does anyone have any information on this issue, possible fixes and if Apple are working on any software update to fix this. My system is an intel 2009 iMac with media stored on 4TB external drive, 2 x Apple TV's (2 and 3), BT home Hub new Router and wireless connection. I am in the UK. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks Jason
  8. Hi, I have found an old members podcast that i wanted to re-download. I went to the maccast site and downloaded the episode from the members section and imported it into iTunes. The problem is that it appears in it's own folder in the podcast section. So when I view all my subscribed podcasts I have 2 folders now for the maccast. I've looked at the file and can't see any difference in the metadata between the re-downloaded podcast file and all the other podcast files that are in the other folder. Ideally I'd like the re-downloaded podcast to be in the same folder as all the other maccast podcasts. Can anyone help?
  9. Hello - can anyone suggest an app or script for entering metadata for media imported into the iTunes library? For example, I may import several podcasts into my library and would like to be able to enter the title, artist, genre, etc. with ease. I know I can do it in iTunes but that is painful when doing multiple files. Thanks!
  10. I have an issue where every 1st, 2nd, or 3rd time I sync my iPod classic with iTunes (10.6.x) the settings switch from "Sync only checked songs and videos" to "Manually manage music and videos" and "Enable disk use". The result is that everything on my iPod is for all practical purposes is deleted and more than 7100 songs, audiobooks, and podcasts have to be re-written to my iPod Classic taking an hour or more. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. I have done a complete clean install of Lion and iTunes. I have uninstalled iTunes 10.6.1 and installed 10.6, and when I did this I deleted all of the various configuration files in ~/Library. I have repaired disc permissions on the disk where iTunes resides on my computer. Any help in resolving this issue would be sincerely appreciated.
