Least Used Bundled Mac App

Recommended Posts

I (almost) never use...

  • Automator
  • Comic Life
  • GarageBand
  • Internet Connect (not really much of an Application)
  • Mail (since Gmail doesn't have IMAP)
  • Microsoft Office (not technically bundled, but it is way to slow for me in Rosetta)
  • OmniOutliner
  • Quicken
  • Sherlock (you know you havn't used this in years)
  • Stickies (the widget is cooler)
  • TextEdit
  • and most of the stuff in the Utilites folder (excluding Activity Monitor, Disk Utility, Keychain Access and Terminal)

Automator is an app I would love to use, but every time I try to put together an action together, I run into a brick wall and end up using an AppleScript or shell script. I just wish Automator was more flexible and versatile.

Shelock?? I didn't even use that very much when it was new!

Stickies? I still use paper...

I have used Garageband once. I never used the Quicken products before deleting them. I have used Comic Life once. I don't think I have ever used the Omni* products.

Comic Life, Microsoft Office, OmniOutliner, Quicken, Sherlock, and Stickies from that list but I also think the small game bundle is a waste. I also hate Multi-Language and Drivers installing by default; I always take them out.

oddly enough, I use OmniOutliner, TextEdit, Garageband and Stickies (the widget version). I also use Mail.app (works with my Gmail account nicely). I have an old mac (powerbook), so comic life i've never used before, but it actually sounds fun in a childish sort of way. Automator...I've used it once or twice, but i usually end up writing AppleScripts instead, or just doing it manually.

That is so odd; it's one of my most used apps; I can't live without it. I take it you load the Microsoft bloat-ware (aka. Word) app thing instead right?

Of Neil's list, I do use Automator, Comic Life, Mail, Omni Outliner, Stickies, and Text Edit. In the Utilities folder, I use quite a few of them, including Disk Utility and Terminal.

I almost never use automator, Quicken, iPhoto (All aperture all the time), iMovie (I dont have a video camera. yet), iDVD (same reasons), MS office, sherlock, dashboard, stickies, address book, iCal, iSync (if anybody knows how I can get it to sync with my Nokia 6102 tell me!), Art Director's tookit (what is it?), calculator, Safari, Dictionary ( in a cocoa app, I can just press cmd+ctrl+d), DVD player, Image Capture, Internet connect, Stuffit Expander, Zino, AirPort Setup Assistant, AirPort Admin Utility, and every other app in the utilities folder save for Terminal, Activity monitor, Disk Util, X11, Bluetooth File Exchange and the console. I use the Omni apps all the time, and same with Mail and TextEdit (Gmaill can work with Mail, just not imap), I used to use iWeb all the time, but now I use wordpress. Another thing I get rid of is all of the printer drivers and spare languages. The only app that screws up when I remove languages is Adobe Reader which kinda sucks anyway.

I have iLife '05 here. I'd like to have iLife '06 but can't convince myself to spend the money for it. Who knows, we may be looking at a '07 coming out with the release of Leopard. Since I don't have an Intel Mac, I believe I will get more up to date when I do buy one and save myself the cost of the iLife upgrade as well as what Leopard would cost if I had to buy it by itself.

As far as least used app, it looks like Automator has won out in this poll.

i use all of them :D yea even script editor, appleworks (transferred from mac mini), automator, iLife, Photo Booth, Comic Life, Omni Outliner, etc.

Omni Outliner is real helpful for doing outlines for schoolwork. Photo Booth and Comic Life is a crazy fun combo when u have friends over.

heh, that's just me i guess (being a young mac geek)...

There are some great videos on how to use Automator on MacBreak (videocast: http://www.twit.tv/MB?p=3). The original Automator developer is featured. He provides step by step examples of how to automate. Worth a download.

Episodes 8, 14, 20, and 23 are all on Automator.

I used iWeb once (whaaaaat?! I can't edit the source? *quits*) and I don't use textedit any more - I used TextMate now. Very rarely use iDvd, I don't use any of the Omni or Comic life stuff.

Like others, I haven't found a use for Automator, Comic Life, or Chess. Exposé and Spaces don't fit with how I work. iChat doesn't get much of a workout either. Guess I just don't have any friends to talk to. Ha!

Otherwise, I'm in the utilities frequently though not to have them running all the time. Lots of assorted stuff running all the time though--text processing, graphics, coding.

I use GarageBand occasionally, but only because we use it in music lessons at school and I like to experiment with it. I never use Mail, because my email provider which I used won't work with it...I used stickies once, and I never use iDVD, Automator, Front Row, iCal or iChat....
