Ejecting stubborn CDs using a terminal command

Recommended Posts

Today I inserted a DVD only to find out Toast didn't recognize it. I couldn't get the system (OSX) to disengage the DVD, it was stuck in the drive. I tried the eject key to no avail.

Shoot, love the mac, but I thought I had to restart just to get the DVD to eject.

Well, I found a very nice and simple command to have the disc eject.

drutil tray eject 0

That's the command.

Oh of course that is a terminal command. Launch the Terminal and type that in (you can copy and paste that into the terminal if you wish) and that is a Zero not the letter O after the word eject.

Oh good, I like the ' command drutil eject 0' a little better

I like to think of it as Doctor Utility, Eject zero please.
