iPods suddenly erasing. Any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I've got two iPods hooked up to a single user (where my girlfriend and I keep all our music files in one iTunes). This has worked fine for a long time.

Then yesterday my girlfriend said her iPod was suddenly blank. Mine was too. iTunes said, "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Use the iPod Software Updater application to restore the iPod to factory settings."

So I did. With both iPods. It all seemed to work fine. Then, about 30 minutes after updating and reloading my iPod, I got the same message again!

I have no idea what provoked any of this. I haven't changed anything. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you have an iSight plugged in? If so unplug it and try syncing again.

Im just curious, but why would that matter Adam? Have there been reports of people's iSights screwing up their iPods? They seem to me to be kinda unrelated, especially if you have a USB iPod, not Firewire, which all of the newer iPods are now, I think...

I don't have an iSight, actually.

Is there any preference file I can delete to try solving the problem--without losing all my playlists?
