white film (corrosion?) on memory chip...

Hi all,

 

This is strange: yesterday I replaced the matched pair of 512MB memory chips in my Macbook with a new set of 1GB chips. However, when I removed the original memory I saw this strange white film covering the chips — almost like mold. See the photo below:

Is this corrosion? I've never spilled any liquids on the computer before, but this doesn't look normal. Any ideas?
