About that iPod Software Patent

Recommended Posts

The podcast expressed concern that Apple's iPod software interface could be copied. That wouldn't happen because software is copyrighted. By default, nobody can copy the iPod software, but they could create an interface that is based on it (uses its design principles).

Just clarifying.

A lot of things has to happen before we get to that point, I believe. Apple released the iPod with the software interface before the patent was filed. I believe the issue of prior works comes into play here for Mr. Platt's patent filing.

I think even IF the worst nightmare would happen and Microsoft would get some sort of 1-Up on Apple, Microsoft STIlLL does not have what Apple has, which is the relationship and cult-like status that Mac users share with Apple.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
