Handbrake 0.9.2 Still Won't Work with OS X 10.5

Recommended Posts

Recently i descovered that a new version of handbrake had been released, version 0.9.2. It said it was only leopard compatable so i was delighted as the previous version didn't work with vista. But now everytime i try to do a movie it only does a tiny bit of it and never completes it.

What formats are you trying to convert from and to?

I am successfully using HB092 to convert my SG1 and BSG discs to Apple TV format.

Have you tried deleting the preferences file for HB? (bad Preference File carried over from previous version)

Have you tried doing the conversion in another User Account? (might be User Account issue???)

If you let me know what your trying to convert, I'll try and replicate the problem.

What DVD are you trying to rip? If it's a DVD with copyright protection on it, then this may be causing the problem.

I am having the same problem. I made a DVD of my son in iDVD and tried to convert it to TV formats and HandBrake reads the DVD and gets a ton of read errors. I trashed the prefs and even ripped the DVD to my HD but HandBrake 0.9.2 will not even get a title to convert. I've tried several DVDs and not one will work.

Luckily my upgraded G4 tower and G4 PowerBook will do it fine, but I'd like to see how fast this Intel chipped MBPro is.

MBPro 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM, 10.5.2 Leopard, Handbrake 0.9.2

Try ripping a different/older DVD. Handbrake can break most DRM schemes, but I have had problems with a few DVDs. For those DVDs, I use MactheRipper to create a copy of the disk without DRM, then I use Handbrake to convert the DVD for iTunes.

I'm using Handbrake on a new aluminum iMac with 10.5.2, no problems.

The other thing I thought is the DVD drive itself.

Each drive is a bit different and different manufacturers have different tolerances, etc.

Like groomsy57 said, try another DVD.

Also, try MacTheRipper and then from there use Handbrake.

Did you also try it under another User Account?

I'm going to try T2 in the morning which I used to always have problems with.

If that rips OK, then I'm at a loss right now what your problem might be.

Looks like the DVD Drive is having a hard time reading the disc.

I've just made some discs up for my wife's Tai Chi Class so I'll try those and see if I get similar read errors tomorrow.

thats the thing see, it doesn't work on any DVD's, even on ones that i've managed to convert before!

Well I'm 80% through doing T2 Ultimate Edition to Apple TV and this is the last few lines of what I get and it's still going.

Looks like it'll finish.

This is on an Aluminum iMac with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J internal DVD drive.

I hate Matshita drives! This disc rips fine on my Pioneer DVR-109 inside my G4 and an external one as well. The one in my PowerBook G4 does it fine too, it's a Matshita UJ-825, but the MBPro just won't do it.

Yea, we have another name for that brand  but this is a "Family Friendly" forum.

I'm not sure if this'll help but you could try checking the Handbrake Forums and asking for help there.
