Convert ogg to mp3 for iTunes

Recommended Posts

I've got some OGG files that I'd like to convert to MP3s so I can play them in iTunes and my iPod.

Can anyone point me to a program or workflow that will accomodate this? :)

Thanks!

Update: I found a semi-convoluted way using Parallels and a Windows program I used to use all the time but it would be nice to find something a little more elegant. :)

I normally use Max, a GUI that supports a number of encoders such as LAME and Ogg Vorbis. It's a useful app.

Great! I batch converted the remaining OGG files. :)

Thanks!

I used a PC program, in my case J.River Media Player, to do the OGG to MP3 conversion in place and then went back to iTunes and ran "Add to Library" but I'm sure any PC file conversion program that can do OGG to MP3 would do the job. :)

J. River Media Player is a paid for program that I used to use in my former PC life and for a little while in the Mac world too via Parallels. Very cool program but iTunes integration into the iPod is tough to beat tho' Media Player is a LOT more powerful.

You might want to check out this hint for OS X Hints

Does it also allow transfer to an iPod?

Sorry, don't know. I don't have any Ogg content so, never personally installed the plugins.

No, it won't. No matter what you install on your mac, your iPod won't be able to play .ogg files. You'll need to convert them to a format the iPod can play, such as mp3 or aac.

Try out Switch For Mac. When it tells you that your "trial license" has expired click "No" to skip that dialog and continue using the paid version.

This does a great job of batch conversions and I use it all the time!
