Can't Add Attendees in iCal

Hope someone can help me with this issue. I cannot add attendees on iCal. When you insert an email address and click out of the box the email disappears. It should stay there and the done button should change into send. This happens on both of my macs with the latest mac OS. I went to the genius bar this week and they cannot figure it out either...
