iPod 5G 30GB will only produce music out of one ear

Recommended Posts

My friend's brother has a black 30gb 5G iPod that will only produce music out of one ear. I thought that he needed a new headphone jack, so I ordered one online ($10 on eBay), installed it (huge pain to do btw), but am still having the same problem which leads me to believe that it is not the headphone jack. What do you think may be causing this problem and how can I fix it?

I have to ask to be sure - you have tried more than one set of headphones?

Sorry, no offense intended. I just know that sometimes I overlook the obvious.

That's just very weird. It seems to be a faulty audio circuit. I can't find any settings for adjusting balance.

I totally understand about asking that, I work on fixing a lot of computers (mostly Windows, Macs rarely need to be fixed), and I always have to ask silly things like "Are you sure it's plugged in?" and the likes.

So on the iPod would I most likely have to replace the motherboard?

Could I get an iPod remote that plugs into the bottom and get sound out of both ears on the headphones coming off of that?

Thanks!
