Airport Extreme + Windows XP + WDS

Recommended Posts

For the most part our setup in this apartment has been working. But every few months this issue happens where we loose the WDS sharing.

I have an Airport Extreme(on a Mac, Leopard) set up for WDS sharing across the apartment to Joe's Airport Extreme (hooked up to a Dell, running XP). His computer hooks up to his Airport Extreme via Ethernet. It has happened before where the Airport Extreme will change settings or something and will not work(I don't know if it has anything to do with assigning an IP address). Usually I change the settings so it matches what I have set up for a wireless network and it's fine. This time his Airport Utility won't even find the router. For a while I could manage his Airport through my Airport utility and I was able to see that the settings were wrong. But now neither my Mac nor his XP machine will see his router though Airport Extreme. Any thoughts as to why it isn't working? And how to fix it? Thanks.

Are either routers near a microwave? Or behind/near metal walls/doors? These things could affect the effectiveness of the wireless signal.

Nope. Like I said, it had worked fine for a while. His computer is connected via Ethernet and Airport Utility on his XP machine won't even recognize the router.
