iPhone 2G w/ 3.0 OS question

Recommended Posts

Hey Gang:

I have an iPhone 2G (8gig). I updated to 3.0 and don't have any push notification options. Is this intentional? Does the 2G not benefit from the 3.0 push upgrades?

No, it doesn't. Push requires a persistient connection, which isn't possible over EDGE (which can only handle one connection at a time - otherwise you wouldn't be able to make calls). It's the same reason why you can't browse the internet whilst on a call on EDGE, but you can on 3G. - I think anyway. Easiest way to test it is to install a free app that supports push and give it a go! http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore...685760&mt=8

Also, the notifications setting doesn't appear in Settings until you've installed an app that supports notifications.
