Formatting iPod in Windows Explorer

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever tried to format an iPod in Windows Explorer and then restore the software?

My ipod photo now has a balck and white screen with the folder/exclamation point thingy on it. I tried restoring it on two different PCs and neither worked.

Any suggestions?

THANKS

NICK

Whats wrong with restoring it with the updater like everyone else, why explorer specifically?

because the "restore" on updater doesn't restopre it

Right now, my ipod photo (with a color screen) has reverted to a black and white screen, and the only thing it does is show the apple logo, followed by the folder with an exclamation point and then it shuts off. When connected to my computer, it does show the Do not disconnect / ok to disconnect thing, but It won't play music or anything

Is it recognized by your PC (ie, does it show up in My Computer)? You're right that you need to erase it before you can do a Restore. I don't really know Windows but I would check your Help files about the Check Disk routines. Or, you may want to look at the Apple forum for Windows and iPods http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?14@...Rka.0@.689d6c58.
