Recommended Posts

My 2.33GHz battery needs replacing badly. Would anyone recommend an aftermarket one or go with apple. Some of the reviews of apple arent to good. Thanks

I'm curious as to what "bad reviews" about Apple Batteries the OP is referring ? All batteries compatible with a MB or MBP would have to have the same specs ( otherwise they would not function ) and I would assume that the Apple batteries would be the same ones as those placed in the computers at manufacture. Granted there are some 3rd party batteries out there with longer battery life ( supposedly ) than the ones Apple sells, but I would think that would be the only thing that might deter one from buying a battery from Apple ( unless it's just cheaper through 3rd party ).

Hey first of all thanks for the response. On the apple site the average rating for the 15" MBP battery is 2 stars out of almost 750 responses. I purchased this current battery from apple a year ago and it seems like it went bad a couple of months ago, I've been putting off buying a new one just because. I have to agree with the others that the battery just doesnt last. I've read the how to's and try to treat my battery the correct way.

I realize batteries dont last forever. I just thought there might be some aftermarket ones that might be considerable cheaper that the apple ones. I normally dont buy anything non apple. I must have the best :-) Its just that this last battery was so bad and to see all the reviews on apple site saying how bad they were I thought I would ask for another option.

OK, so you are shopping for price. But just so so know, I have an Apple supplied Battery in my MBP ( a second one I purchased so that I would have two ) which I have been using since Dec 2007 ... after 305 recharge cycles it still has 98% of its original Capacity ( according to the cocoanut battery app ) and is working just fine. Something to consider is that on any review site, you are generally going to get more negative reviews than positive ones .... people just don't seem to bother to post as much when they don't have problems ( if at all ). One thing that I do, however, that many that have posted reviews may have not, is religiously maintain my battery according to Apples following support articles:

http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html'>http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

http://www.apple.com/batteries/

No matter where you get your battery from, the above articles contain info that IMHO should be followed ( if you hadn't already .... I don't want to assume that you didn't ... you could have just gotten a bad one )

The last battery I bought for my MBP is a NewerTech from OWC (http://www.macsales.com). They have a slightly larger capacity usually and I've been using it for about 45 days with no issues.
