Instructions for fixing "Final Cut Express won't open"

Recommended Posts

Roundobi posted a solution to "Final Cut Express won't launch" in an earlier topic. He stated, "The problem lies in the final cut express user file. I erased that and everything was a-ok. The final cut user file is in ~/Library/Prefrences/Final Cut User Data. Erase that whole thing, you will just have to setup your prefrences and scratch disks again!"

I just want point out that this IS a fix--it worked for me yesterday--but the instructions might be misread. You don't want to delete "the whole thing." You don't want to delete the Library, or Preferences--just the Final Cut User Data file. I've heard of others having to delete the Preferences folder, but I was able to launch the program yesterday after deleting only the data file. Good luck! (And thanks Roundobi--it's a good fix.)

if you don't want to crawl around looking for all the files to delete you might want to try this Preference Manager that works for all version of Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express.
