Photo Sharing Sites

Recommended Posts

I would like to be able to upload my photos to one site, then be able to allow friends or family to view and download specific albums, and other friends or family to be able to download other specific albums. Mobileme seems to be all or none, and Flikr has a "guest pass" that sounds like it's supposed to do that, but when I try it, it gives me access to my entire gallery of albums. Does anyone know of a site where I can select who can see what and not have everybody able to see everything?

Thanks.

I've used Google's Picasa to upload pics of my own but I've never really used it to share pics with others. But I'm pretty sure it has some special options for who you share with etc, but you'd have to play around with it to see if it's exactly what you want. You can get there from here: picasaweb.google.com. It's free if you have a Google account, plus it has quite a bit of space for the free account. If you do end up using it, be sure to download the Picasa Web Albums Uploader - it makes it really easy to upload your photos to specific albums and whatnot. You can find that here: link.

Hope some of this helps.

I believe the Kodak Gallery will let you share specific albums with specific people ( at least it used to ). Only drawback is that Kodak makes you make at least one purchase ( prints, etc. ) to keep your account active.

Mobileme has a photo upload service I think, but that might be a bit more confusing, as you have to pay and have a subscription etc.

SmugMug has a simple password for sharing a set. here's the doc on that: http://www.smugmug.com/help/share-groups

SnapFish offers a "invitations to see a photo set" feature. here's the feature description: http://www.snapfish.com/snapfish/photosharing

Picasa has a a "sign in to view" function for private albums.

Photobucket has a protected share feature.

Fotiki has a invitation to view feature.

I'm going to stop now… it's an interesting topic for a show.

Yeah, I'm surprised no one's done this already.

Thank you all!

I'm working with SmugMug, which seems to be able to do what I wanted. I'm using the free trial to check it out.

I agree with some of the reviews I've read of it. SmugMug shows off the photos beautifully.
