First gen iPod nano in Japan

Recommended Posts

Apple charged 6,800 Japanese yen (79.66 US dollars) for the battery replacement of a first gen iPod nano. I have no luck!

Wow, is that after that overheating issue they had?

I guess you are kind of lucky there are replacing them at all, considering how old they are. I suppose the Government wouldn't stop bugging them about it.

I went to the Apple support website yesterday to file for a replacement. Seems like having a dead battery isn't good enough. It has to be very hot and in really bad condition for them to replace it for free. Probably a very few number of iPod nanos are in such a dire situation, so it sounds like this fiasco cost Apple very little, aside from the brand image.

I suppose; if people have a bad experience with a company they tend to get put off for a while...until they forget or get tempted with clever marketing.

Regarding Apple replacing the old ones - Surely it would have been cheaper for Apple to replace them with 5th Gens, rather than just making some more 1st gens. Unless they had them stock piled of course.

So far, the Product Service Status page looks like this:

Step 1 - Request

Product received by service center (26-Aug-2010)

Step 2 - Service

Service completed (26-Aug-2010)

Step 3 - Return

it hasn't returned yet.

They just shipped it this afternoon. Maybe I'll call to ask what took them so long.
