Partitioning a back up Drive

Can I partition a 1T Seagate external drive to back up my two 320G MacBooks?

i can't think of why not. i've got a 1T WD drive partitioned for three different computers.

You can, but I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. If that one drive fails you lose the backups for both systems. You're better off getting a 500GB HD for each Mac.
