Weird thing

This was an explination of how to use BBCode to insert (think of it as pasting) an image to these boards.

using the "" encloses your image and stops the URL becoming a link but instead an embedded image. ("" means stop or close the image tag. The URL should be the address of the image. You can find this out (in Safari) by right-clicking (^[Control] and click) the original image and selecting "Copy Image Address".

If you would like screenshots' date=' further explination or referance to using a different browser I would be happy to do it. Also to note is that BBCode is common in fora and allows for basic HTML editing in HTML tags only using ['] instead of <>. This means that there are only certain tags allowed to users as a security precaution among other things, but it does mean that learning one means you can easily transfer it to the other.

A good guide to BBCode can be found here and furthermore I will list the basic editing tags with examples here also:

Enclose these given letters/words with [] at the start of the word or phrase you wish to format, then close with [/ before it and ] after it:

b - Bold

i - Italic

u - Underline

url - http://www.maccast.com[/url] (better still try <url=http://www.maccast.com>The MacCast Website.</url> to get The MacCast Website.)

In addition you can create something more "complex" by linking them together like so:

<quote="<url=http://maccast.com/phpbb/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1368&sid=68e945386aecefb3e4b6267e59a0b63d]Matt Hoult</url>"]I have this image linked from my Fotki account: <url=http://www.fotki.com><img>http://images15.fotki.com/v235/photos/5/530878/2747540/MattHoult02-vi.png</img></url> Sorry about the image used' date=' but it's the only small one there...</quote>

Oh and please also note that the linked image you were originally talking about is "hotlinked", meaning it is linked direct from Apple servers; not a good idea for a number of reasons, the best scenario is that it will be blocked and you will get an ? instead. Always link to your own copy of the image on a server of your own or use Fotki Free accounts to do so as I did above.

Ps. Sorry for hotlinking Adam :D

Thank you for your explanation. I will try to read it when my brain is not so fired

I've seen some pretty funny situations of people hotlinking.

First off, its stealing bandwidth. Normally, the server will detect it and give you a ? or on windows a red X.

But if you really piss somebody off, they can switch the image to anything they want. I've seen some people get caught hotlinking on ebay and have their auctions go straight from product images to Over 60 Porn.

Best way to do it, is to upload the image to a free image host, such as photobucket. Then just use bbcode it bind it in your message. Because nobody wants to see Over 60 Porn, its not pretty.
