Rackmount Mac?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this is my very first post. I am looking at setting up a rackmount system and i wanted to get a mac system (to have OSX) and I just dont know where to look at all. Does anyone know where i can get mac hardware (motherboard, hard drive, rackmount case) to build it myself? If someone could help me out I would greatly appriciate it.

Thanks,

Jr

Your best bet is to upgrade. These aren't like build em' how-you-want-Peecees.

ok... well, where would I get a "rackmount" macintosh? (or parts or anything) I just want to make sure it's rackmount.

I would suggest modding a PowerMac G3, G4, or G5. But beyond that I'm clueless.

do you (or anyone else for that matter) know how much a G4 (or so) would cost? I really dont know that much about macs honestly. I have PC's right now but I want to get a mac because every once and a while I need it for some stuff.

A powermac G4 would be your best bet. Keep in mind it would be easier to upgrade. Powermax is the best place to look.

Marathon Computing used to sell RackMount adapters for all the G4/G5 towers, I'm sure they'll have something you're looking for.

Just curious, but what do you want to do that requires a rackmount?

Unless you mean standard PC "rackmount" form factors, in which case you are out of luck I am afraid.
