That is almost exactly the same as my fairly new PowerBook. The only difference I see is that I went for the 120gb 5400RPM drive instead of the 100gb 7200RPM drive. I simply chose capacity over speed, as I want to be able to store all of the photos I take on a 2 or 3 week overseas vacation.

I'm sure you'll like your PowerBook. It is just so very well made.

Nice, the PoweBook is a good machine and well built over the iBook and weighs like nothing. :D

Actually, I have found at least the older PowerBooks to be very heavy compared to anything but a thinkpad. My mom has one and it is about 15 pounds, but an inch thick. Now they are making them like iBooks, thicker and lighter (and they run cooler, that one will burn you if you try to use it as a "laptop"), but the old ones were HEAVY. Also, iBooks are built better now. Although they are the slower models in the group, they keyboards and trackpads now work great, and the keys don't fall off.

If you are going for crazy good everything, fill the 2 RAM slots with 1 GB a piece.

And get the best video card possible...

I have bluetooth are rarely use it. Actually, never in the 2 months I have had my iBook have I used bluetooth at all. I know it comes standard but I don't think you will use it. But it does come standard. I would have a wireless mouse, but I like the idea of being able to run everything off of 1 charger/battery-- the laptop itself. Having to charge the mouse or replace teh batteries is just not something that appeals to me. Not to mention I picked up an optical mouse for $15 that almost works. It glitches and randomly flys the cursor to the other side of the screen while you use it some of the time. I guess there really is an advantage to mice that cost more. BTW, I will never touch another mouse w/ball, wired or not. Even my cheap optical mouse is great... you don't have to clean it...

If it's still an option, get the video upgrade, standard was 64mb when I bought my PowerBook 1.5GHz and I opted for the 128mb Radeon, that's one thing that can never be upgraded. I also did the 5400 rpm drive, the 7200rpm drives weren't available then or I would have gotten that.

Intel is better than a G3 but, for me I would take a G4 over an intel any day.

Chances are it was an Intel brand Intel CPU. To be more specific it was a Pentium 4.

Pentium 4 CPUs are not terribly efficient in their use of power, as they produce large amounts of heat and this is not their intended use.

When a toaster produces heat it is doing what it was designed to do, not so much with a CPU.

Apple will not be using P4 CPUs.

The P3 is very simallar to the G4. They both have 100-167 MHZ busses. They both have low clock speeds too.

We don't have any idea what chip Apple will be using, but I can confidently say it will not be a P3. The P3 and G4 for that matter are old tech. Apple will probably be using the Pentium M but it could be an as of yet unknown chip and aren't there rumors about the yonah chip.

But for the desktops, what will they use?
