The only true dual core is AMD.

I remember in the Sepmtember issue of Maximum PC they built the so called god of PCs dual everything DMX 05, it had dual dual core AMDs at 2.2 ghz (can you say PC PowerMac?) so it was dual everything dual videocard dual dual processors, dual displays and dual channeled RAM at 8 GB which can be dualed to 16GB. But here was the big killer dual terabytes of storage and a keyboard mouse and stero systme, price tag: Just take a guess

12,250 dollars and how much does the same config cost for the PowerMac with dual displays?

The DMX was kinda cool, if you could get the Tiger hack on there. but it was dual core and not a mention of Intel around it. It seems that we won''t see a dual core intel or a fast one compared to AMDs on the launch dates.

All I know is that in a collom I read in PC Mag somebody said that intel has yet to make a true dual core processor. I think it has something to do with the fact that the intels have no integrated FSB or no integrated memory controlor. Or both. Also the Pentium Ds do not have very good proformance.

When it comes to Dual core AMDs rock, which is probably why there the gaming chips and if intel could have that AMD muscle we have a great chip dual core. But also in Maximu PC pretty much every computer will be dual core by 2007 it then went on to mention 5 things Vista should take from other OSes 3 Mac OSX and 2 Linux and they admitted how bad Windoze sucked and how badly they wanted this stuff, they even said how some features in Windoze were unbearable.

So I think I will get this config

# 1GB PC2-4200 DDR2 - 2x512 SO-DIMMs

# 100GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400 rpm

# SuperDrive DL (DVD+RW/CD-RW)

# AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth

# Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English

# ATI Mobility Radeon 9700

# 15.2-inch TFT Display

So what do you think of this config?

cfsporn...

I think that config rules. The only thing that I would change, personally, would be to upgrade to the 7200 rpm hard drive. You would notice a difference.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think about AppleCare for the Powerbooks?

I am desprately short on funds right now so I can not get the 7200 RPM unless I downgrade 512 mbs of ram. Also I will get applecare next year for the reasons stated above.

In the case of a fund shortage, definitely go with the extra RAM. It will make more of a difference than the hard drive. As for AppleCare, I did not know that you could purchase it after the fact. Do you have to purchase it within the first year or how does that work?

Now that is interesting. This is one thing that was sort of holding me back for now. The cost of the AppleCare was driving the price of the laptop way up. I might think about saving up some money from my side job and go ahead and purchase that Powerbook.
