Post Better Names for the MacBook Pro

Recommended Posts

Hey gang I hate the new name for the MacBook Pro and we are all smart creative people. Post alternative, slicker, sexier, more Apple-esque name here.

I'll try first, not the best but a start

Apple duoBook

IBook

iPad

or just plain PowerBook.

I agree that the new name leaves a lot to be desired and it's going to be hard to quit calling them PowerBooks. The "duo" name was used before. My first thought is Apple LifeBook, but I'll keep thinkin' (because I don't think it's the best either).

what will the new iBooks be called?

I think only the pro model names will change, so we'll still have iMac and iBook, and then something like Macintosh Pro and of course MacBook Pro.

As for the name, I kind of like just MacBook. MacBook Pro is a little clumsier sounding.

They need to keep the branding separate as they are both different products.

When the PowerBooks get phased out I think that the intels will be called PowerBooks.

If that was the name then 10000000 English teachers would scream. At once.

But they aren't PowerPC powered anymore.

So, there were PowerBooks before PowerPc.

It's so not worth arguing.

Fine, but may I suggest MacTracker if you want info on old and new Macs. In it you will find that there were intels in Macs before 1995.

Not as the main processors! There were Macs with separate DOS cards (IBM PC on a card).

Has anyone thought that the updates to the iBooks will be called MacBooks? Thus, the "Pro" would differentiate the product lines when the PowerPCs are phased out?

Does this mean that apple will stop selling PowerPC Machines in January 07?

I believe your idea will prove to be true.

I do agree that MacBook PRO is lame. MacBook, not quite as lame. But, as I've said a few times, I think it's all about branding.

However, in the spirit of this thread how about the Apple Slate. Maybe Slate would be better for a tablet PC.

Hmm...

or How about Macintosh Portable...oh wait...

Maybe Slate is already taken...

Best Regards,

-Rob

Alluding to Intel's new slogan I'd (more or less seriously) go for LeapBook. Or FirstBook (since it's the first Mac Notebook to switch).

LeapBook sounds too much like a Leapfrog toy laptop. :P
