yeah, I love it. its so damned cheap and so fast and reliable. I love amd. I own an intel laptop and a intel p4 desktop along with my small form factor pc, but I only game on amd.

Also man I understand you hate intel but don't buy ppc just because its the chip. if its really 2-5 times faster, depending on the model, then its worth it whatevers under the hood.

am seriously considering the macbook pro...really really a lot and I'm gonna fill it with ram...its literally gonna smoke!

Another weird thing that everybody says about the intel macs is their short boot time. Hello! 20 seconds in not quick!!! My PB does that in 18 seconds! My iMac does it in 15 seconds !

We're all here debating which chips are better and what not. I apologize in advance if what I'm about to say isn't true, bu NONE of us are chip designers and know the nitty gritty details of each chip.

You can't compare mhz between architectures or different brands. Heck, you can't even use mhz to compare different chip families from the same brand. I'm betting the 2ghz Intel chip inside the iMac is very close in performance to the fastest P4 chip. Just because the P4 chip was teh suxxorz and inefficient doesn't mean ALL Intel's chips will be.

If all that doesn't matter to you and hating a single brand and all they make because someone else says so, well.. I don't care.. you can believe what you want. We all have our own brains and can make our own decisions on what we like. As for me, I can't wait to see what's in store for the Power Mac replacements. I'm sure whatever it is, and if Intel's timeline holds true, then what's in store will blow the pants off any G5 or Athlong 64s. Guess we'll find out later this year. ;)

You are compairing next gen processors to current gen processors. Cnet.com did a review intel vs. AMD. AMD won 7/7 of the rounds. I think this is an indication of the future.

We shall see. The article Cnet did was probably comparing the AMD chip vs the P4 (which IMO, was a poor design). I think Anandtech or Toms hardware recently did benchmarks with the Yonah chip vs latest P4 vs latest AMD Athlong 64s. If I remember correctly, the Intel Yonah hung right in there with them.. all from a MOBILE chip that consumes MUCH LESS power and less mhz. Imagine what they have in store for the desktops.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Intel is better than AMD, or vice versa. All my PC boxes are powered by AMD processors. Each company will always one-up the other. In the end, it's us that benefits. :D

They might use Linux or windows. I say this because I recently heard about a "falling out" between Sony and Microsoft. Also Nintendo will use IBM processors in their next generation console.

I don't think Sony would jump from Windows to Something else. They couldn't do it with an all windows market. As for Windows, I wasn't aware that XP or Vista would run on cell..

Windows will never run on a power PC chip - thats why we've had so much trouble for all these with virtual pc needing to emulate the x86 platform

Nintendo are not planning to use the PPC in the revolution either, from all info they have given out so far anyway.

this thread is becoming complete speculation on behalf of cfporn to keep his weak argument going. I'm tired of his apple bashing and his intel bashing, its a good merger and I'm not going to be checking back to this thread again...

No, don't close this thread yet!!! lol. the case, is that with the mobo and chip? cuz i can get a case, mobo, chip and possibly RAM for the same price.

and, i picked up a 5 dollar PSU at a swapmeet, does the wattage matter?

Face it people.

The only way to really compare chips .. is in the GigaFLOP rating. Personally I believe that the Power PC chip is better than an Intel chip but they do have the problem of not being able to go much faster due to the constraints of heat.

As for Intel and AMD. I've used both and I've found out these two imutable laws.

1. Pentiums are great for doing lots of piddly little jobs, running MSN, web browsing, running a media player .. and the like, but not so great when it comes to focusing on one job really hard.

2. AMD's are great for running one task really hard .. like gaming, music, video .. but not so great at running several tasks at once.

This is based on my experience with Pentium 2 and 4, and an AMD Athlon 800 mhz, and 2.4 Ghz.

But in all this, my G4 Powerbook 400, was keeping up nicely with both of them in terms of work load. I was amazed the first time I was able to play a tune in iTunes, and play a DVD at the SAME TIME and the audio from both was steady and uninterupted. Try that on a Windows machine :D

But It's a different ball game now. And the only way to truely compare the chips .. from our moron perspective .. cos we know F**K all about chip design .. is in the GigaFLOP rating.

So lets give Intel a chance and see if Apples confidence in them is justified. If it isn't I guess they'll be asking IBM or Motorola for some more Power PC chips again .. hehe .. (Not likely .. but damned funny if they did!)

But according to cross platform benchmarking from places such as Barefeats, the Athlon 64 often beats much higher clocked G5's which if anything suggests that the Athlon 64 is a more efficent and better chip inspite of a legecy instruction set.

Also note that dual core Athlon's will multitask much better.

http://www.barefeats.com/mvdcpc.html

Note that the 2.7ghz G5 system is often beaten by a 2.2ghz dual core athlon!

I love Athlons but I can not compare them.
