Pentium D

Recommended Posts

Who knows. What has been written are the Mac Mini's will be first to get updated next year than Powermacs by 2007. Not sure what to believe until Apple begins giving the developers information. So, by then there might be another new chip from Intel.

There's a story here at Ars

Steve was talking about how difficult it will be to run OSX on intel chips and he goes to his computer(the audience giggles)...steve clicks on the apple and "About this Mac" and that pic was up on the big screen...

Isn't it true that it will really only affect software developers?

If Apple is making this descision, I trust it's to make the computer's faster, which from the consumer end is pretty good.

I've been re-watching the WWDC and I was wrong about Rosetta...It5s a shame really tough. Could Intel not have made Apple a new chip based on the current architecture? is the power PC really is a dead avenue?

What statement did you make about Rosetta that was wrong? I didn't see anything in this thread.

I think the intel processors suck and I think Apple is making a big mistake about this. Even though they can't get the powerPC processors up to 3 GHZ they are still very good processors. In fact I think that if Apple were to use x86 processors that AMD would be a better choice.

I think we have beat this issue to death already. Why bring it up?!

cfsporn is the 7% of ALL mac users who think the intel is obselete when AMD comes around he's sticking that in his powermac . no offense or anything but change is good, see the light. :)

I am being a bit dogmatic aren't I. However I can not find any flaws with the Dual processor Power Mac G5 2.5 GHZ.

I also know that intel has a new roadmap so my views might change. However right now my intel experence has been so/so.

2.4 on a Dell desktop is slow to me.

While the intel chips may have clock speeds over 3gHz, theyre not that efficient. However, in the mobile chip department, the intel chips are probably the best in terms of power consumption and efficiency. I think this is why Apple is making the switch, and it also opens the possibility for them to use the AMD chips in the future. I dont know the Intel roadmap, but I'm sure interesting things are coming. My problem is that the Mac is known for being the choice for multimedia production (graphic, video, audio, etc.), but I fear that moving to x86 may hurt that. But I could be wrong...That "multimedia edge" may be in the os code and not all in the hardware...
