Moving iTunes to Mini ---- What's Best to Use these Days?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to buy a new Mac Mini and I need to move my iTunes Library off my oooold iBook. What's the best program on the market to simply copy the library off the iPod onto the new mini? Thanks :D

No programs needed! Make sure you turn file sharing on in the sharing preference pane on both computers. Assuming you have a router, you should be able to see your old iBook on the network and just drag and drop the file to the new location.

You could also get a firewire cable and hook them together....that's pretty fast. I saw one at target for 9.99. Works well!

Your new Mac Mini will also come with software to help you transfer all of the files, preferences, and accounts from your iBook to your new computer. I think it's called the Migration Assistant, but I could be wrong.

The firewire cable mentioned above is a must however. The difference in transfer speed, as opposed to a network connection, will be worth the $10.00 investment.

A firewire cable is an invaluable thing. Also you cold just use Target disk mode. That is what I used.

I couldn't agree more; this is the only way to go.

THANKS to ALL for the responses. Looks like Migration Assistant with the Fireware Cable is the deal. Excellent!

Wait, I need to put my $ 0.02 in! there is a program called Senuti that rips all the songs oof your iPod and imports into iTunes song info and all. In senuti if you have to change something in the preferences to import in to iTunes, senuti is also free.

p.s. if you do get a Firewire cable be sure to get a firewire 400 to firewire 400 cable.

Will the freeware you suggested let me get videos back off my ipod, or just songs? I have ipod music liberator, but it is songs only...

The issue here is that while Apple have sold record numbers of iPods, it's not a product that we should assume every man, woman and child has. Please don't recommend options without checking that the original poster has an iPod. It's irrelevant. The question referred to iBooks and Mac Minis.

Oh right, sorry I didn't think of that, I'm easily distracted by shiny new tools.

I used the migration assistant to get all my stuff from my clamshell ibook to my ibook G4. From memory, I think that I used an ethernet cable rather than a firewire cable (?). That is possible right? Not all older macs have firewire...
