What is "Safe Sleep"?

Recommended Posts

I read another topic about Safe Sleep and researched it but still do not get what is does or is. Apparently is only for powerbooks, mabye i'm wrong.

I saw a terminal hack but didn't want to try it unless i knew what safe sleep is.

Thanks

Safe sleep enables your Mac to return from sleep and return to it's previous state even when the power source fails, battery dies or is even removed.

A good explanation can be found here.

And why apple doesn't make it easier to access from the GUi is a good question. ;) Ohh and it also works on the intel laptops.

Isn't that was normal sleep does? Bring you back to the same state the computer was in in? or is it the same state after a power shortage?

It's all about the power failure. Normal sleep mode requires a constant (if small) power supply to the components where safe sleep does not. Thus the safe part.
